Xiaomi Dafang Help

Having trouble getting this working.

Managed to hook it up in Mi Home, but can't really get it to do anything. I've managed to see what the camera can see, but it's very choppy. It's currently sitting 2 feet away from the router, so connectivity shouldn't be an issue. I need to keep pressing the play button for it to stream on my phone, and suddenly it just stops streaming and stays on a static image.

I can't see any controls whatsoever to control the pan/tilt. I don't see any of the controls like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=88&v=t8LnLd_XZaI.

I'm yet to insert a microsd card, but assume it records?

A bit underwhelmed so far, but hopefully that's due to user error.

  • So, I updated the software in the Mi Home app and for the camera. Now in the Mi Home app, I can't even bring up the camera to see the limited stuff I could see earlier!

  • I have the same camera with similar issues. The first few days I had it all was good but recently it’s choppy and takes ages to connect. I know it’s not my connection as my smaller Xiaomi camera works fine. I expect it’s either a firmware issue of a server side thing at the China end

  • with the xiaofang others have reported issues with the updated firmware
    ive updated the mihome app which is fine, and left the firmware as is on the camera

    • Even before updating the camera firmware it wasn't working properly.

  • I just noticed there is a new firmware today for it.

    • Didn't help me unfortunately.

    I couldn't get it to work, wouldn't open the camera plugin at all. Reading the forums, a lot of people said the Mi Home updates killed it, so to uninstall, download 4.2.5 from Google Play Store, and run that, an viola it worked for me.

    • Can't seem to find it - you got a link?

      Never mind, found it, and it's working fine now. Thanks for the suggestion!

      • Wow, gone from very disappointed to very happy!

        The only wish now is that I could change the Chinese characters that appear on some menu items. Not sure why some are in English and others are not.

        • Yeah its a pretty good camera, even in low quality. All I'm using it for is to see what my dog does when I'm not home.

          Did find one downside for me though, and its 100% not the camera fault. I have the camera on the inside of a window overlooking the patio where the dog is, at night the IR lights just bounce off the glass and reflect into the lens, so I can't see anything except light reflection. Have to work on this.

        • @AdosHouse: Tried to connect remotely this afternoon, couldn't connect to it at all (couldn't even see it in the app). Anything suggestions?

        • @ryangus:

          Try logging out of the app, and logging back in.

          If you can't see it in the app after that, you might have to do the setup again when you get home.

        • @AdosHouse: Will do. The weird thing is, it worked fine at home after I turned off the wifi on my phone, so I assumed it was all working.

          Also - any idea why the camera light it blinking blue tonight?

        • @AdosHouse: still no luck connecting remotely. I imagine it might be firewall related, but not sure where to start.

          @ryangus:

          What firewall? I had to put a rule in my firewall (Sophos UTM) to allow the Xiaomi server through.

          I had to allow 119.23.133.242 through.

        • @AdosHouse: So, I'm only running standard Windows 10 firewall - do you add the rule here (can't see where), and/or in my router?

        • +1

          @ryangus:

          If your router doesn't have a firewall, just leave it alone. Try turning windows firewall off and see if it works. If still no, it's probably not the problem.

          Is the camera light still blinking, I think that means it is looking for a connect still. Try doing the camera setup again.

        • @AdosHouse: Turned of Windows 10 default firewall, and was able to connect. Any idea how to enable just the Xiaomi Dafang camera and the Philips connected bulb?

          BTW, thanks for all your help!

        • @ryangus:

          Thinking about it further, I'm not sure why Windows Firewall would stop it working, Camera would speak directly to wireless router/modem, it shouldn't go through your computer at all.

          What's your network setup? Just modem giving Wi-Fi to the house?
