Linux Nightmare

Hi

I recently bought a Intel Pentium G4560, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD desktop pc for my folks.
I assumed I was pretty snazzy with computers but I can't seem to install Linux Mint.

I can get it installed but once it boots up, the screen resolution is so much stretched, I cant see the icons. All I can see is the Linux Mint background and I can right click to open terminal, create folders etc… but can't see the start menu etc…
The new and old monitor we bought for the desktop won't allow change the resolution either.

We installed Windows 10 for the time being which works fine but they have been asking about wanting to return to Linux Mint :/

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

Have you tried asking the linuxmint forum? Even though it's international, Linux debugging knows no boundaries.

Change the resolution from the terminal?
Here has some instructions: https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/877 or more basically: http://www.perpetualpc.net/srtd_resolution.html

    • Thank you :)
Will test it out this weekend.

  • I'm not sure, but you might be able to install the proprietary (or similar) drivers somewhere? Don't know if right, but I think it typically uses the open source video drivers due to the whole idea of being open source, but the proper or proprietary drivers should work better?
