TRS for rings, question about package

Hi

I'm going overseas soon, I brought 2 rings as wedding bands for my brother because it is cheaper in Au plus the get back.

The jewelry store told me I only need the invoice and the rings and that's it, I don't need to show the package to the officer, and because those 2 boxes is quite big so I'm plan to take the rings and just post the boxes and other stuff to my brother later on.

Does anyone have any issue regarding the package? I know bring everything with me will be no problem but before I head back to my country I will be in Japan for a week, so don't really like to carry these 2 boxes all the time.

Thanks for everyone.

Agree no need box. Done many for iPhone ipad cameras. Remember to declare back if you happen to "forget" to give the rings to your brother.

    Just saying.

    • Declare back = declare them on the way back in and repay the TRS?

Fully acknowledging it wouldn't be following the rules of the system, but couldn't you just wear them on the way back in? After all, they are the rings you've always worn, not the ones you took to give to your brother?

  • No packing required for TRS.

If the goods are worth more than your duty free allowance (i.e. $900 per adult) then yes, legally, you're supposed to declare them on your incoming passenger card and repay the amount you claimed via TRS.

Obviously this would be 'enforceable' to varying levels depending on the type of good and detail provided on the receipt and to the ABF.
