Presentation or inspection?
Let's assume it's a final handover inspection, take family members and several rolls of blue painters tape with you, mark everything that needs fixing and keep a list.
Make sure you aren't rushed for the inspection. You need to be thorough. Don't get carried away working out where your furniture is going to go, you are meant to be checking for fit and finish. Things open and close properly, paint is suitable standard, no gaps where they shouldn't be etc, plumbing works, electrical fittings are correct… its a long list.
Primary concern should be checking for building defects. Cosmetic stuff secondary. I feel like most people mix these up. I am guilty myself. It's too easy to see a massive gap under a skirting board and think the worst. That shit can be filled. You should consider a building inspector. But even so, they will not check everything, and will have get out clauses for everything they missed.
The biggest enemy of any house in my opinion is the weather, especially water.
Check the gutters. Especially if there is a box gutter. Storms do happen, and you do not want to have to deal with water ingress. All gutters should be falling towards a down pipe. If you have no level, use a phone app, or just a bottle of water. If you can get up there.
Make sure there are enough down pipes, of big enough size to get a lot of water off the roof quickly. Ever seen 20ml come down in 20 mins?
Check the bathroom floors slope to the drain. Check any outside concrete areas are leveled or sloped to a drain.
Make sure any roof insulation was put in properly. Move onto cosmetic stuff, like poor finish on doors and architrave, gaps. If glass door on shower, see if you can test it that water won't splash through gaps. Make sure any agreed requirements are met. Be sure to get copies of any documentation on pest barrier or treatment. If you can get all documents on the building. Check all electrics. If there is a fence, check it has proper concrete footings that will not move over time from wind and rain.
Most importantly. Be prepared to find and accept minor defects you can fix yourself after all is settled - it's part of home ownership. Buy a collapsible ladder, a ryobi 1+ 18v lawn mower and drill with bits, IKEA rechargeable batteries and charger and you'll be right.
