Best Way to Pick up iPhone X on Launch Day?

Hi Guys,
Never posted in here before so I'm just gonna ask away…

I'm looking at picking up the iPhone X on Friday but have no clue how to go about it.
I think I'll go down to Chadstone around 7 as it opens at 8 and pick one up?
Is there a better way to ensure I have a good chance at getting one?

Thanks in advance :D

    By not buying one

Start camping at the store now to ensure #1 spot.

too late someone already claimed that #1

    Should’ve pre ordered last Friday.

Call ahead and ask if they’ll have stock. Best bet is go to one of the major flagship stores and line up with the sheep at 5am at least, that’s what I did for the IP5 and 6+

So you too were a sheep back then but not any more?

Yep, nowadays I preorder :-) Launch events used to be pretty cool with entertainment, now they just feel a bit seedy and irritating when one person near the front (invariably of a certain background) lets dozens of their friends cut the queue before security is in place.

Still felt a bit ridiculous frantically clicking the refresh button at 6:01pm last Friday to secure my three IPhone X’s (“shut up and take my money!!”), but less ridiculous than waking up at the crack of dawn lining up with the fan bois and scummy scalpers, or even worse paying a premium on Fleabay for what is already a very expensive phone.

    • Nope. Preordered mine and those bastards at Vodafone gave me an estimate of 29th DEC.

Bugger. Mine was an outright preorder with Apple. Managed to get two in for Friday launch, ordered a third one about 15mins later and it already pushed out to 4-5 weeks

camping there!! torture yourself! you will get rewarded by the apple god

  • No chance if your gonna be there at 7, try 5am.

  • That’s even if they have walk in stock. They likely won’t due to the demand and supply of it. You’ll probably be looking at a month or 2 wait

  • Get to chadstone by 5. I suggest going to a carrier like Telstra or Optus not the Apple store.

Take a long hard look in the mirror and realise you don't need a $1600 phone, then go purchase a $150 Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x and use the saving to buy pretty much anything else you might want.

ah there is still wise man in this world! anything below $500 is make sense amount to spend on the phone. above? NOT

Pay a homeless to camp out for you?

Have a homeless queue up for you now. On launch day, be the first and buy 21 iPhone X. Then wait outside the store.

Once the store out of stock, sell 20 of the iphone X with a mark up of $100 each.

    Profit: $100 x 20 = $2000.

Pay the poor homeless $200. You just got yourself a free iPhone X 256GB (ok you have to pay $29 as the phone itself is 1829)

    • but.. but.. what happens if the homeless man runs off with my iphone X or money :'(

      • Then you will become homeless

      • Bribe him to stay camped out with cheap wine

    • What could go wrong

  • ebay

  • Honestly your best bet is to take out a small loan and head over to eBay.

But if you really want to try and get one in store, I wouldn't go to the Chadstone store. That's a flagship store. It's always rammed with people even on regular days. I'd try and find another store. The one at Fountain Gate is usually significantly quieter than Chadstone for example. Might have a better chance.

With the state of preorders I'm guessing there may be an extremely limited amount sold at store (I'm talking like tens of devices) so its crucial to be first in line

  • If you are an Apple fan I understand why you want this phone on launch day - it is the biggest change to the iPhone in a few years, but I personally wouldn't bother waking up early and queueing. Just order online from Apple now, wait the 5 weeks and get it stress free.

  • I Preordered on the last Friday 27th Nov. Paid online using Debit card but apple only processed $1 as payment from the bank. Will they process rest of $1578 after 3rd Nov (Launch day) or on shipping day? The order still showing as in process and shipping date expected is 28th of Nov - 4th of Dec.

  • Wait 6 months and get it much cheaper!

  • I am going to try my luck at the Telcos

  • Obtained at apple

    • How hard was it to get stock in store? did you have to go really early?

      • I got there about 5am, there where 72 people in front of me (A guy (non apple employee made a list of names with the order), left the store about 10am.
At about 6am they started going through the line taking all your details and the phone you wanted at that point it was reserved and you could wait or you could come back at a later time.
If you got there after 8 you wouldn’t have gotten one. It’s not for everyone. As it is expensive and waiting inline , the first time I have ever waited in that kind of line before and the first time I have got an iPhone even close to launch date.
I would highly recommend if your an apple fan. Everyone is really friendly.

        • Haha I suppose it's a special experience and you get to have the new phone early on the spot. Lining up at 5am isn't compatible with full time work though!

        • @avidd:
I work full time, I am lucky that my boss is flexible
