Underlying Reason I Buy from OzBargain Retailers Who Take Weeks to Ship to Me

I've thought a lot about this, and believe that while there are a few underlying psychological mechanisms (i.e., tightarse) why I buy stuff from retailers who take weeks to ship stuff to me for free, the main one is that I like to surprise myself.

I end up forgetting what I've ordered, and the spontaneity of an order arriving - or the risk that it might not - is most appealing.

What's yours?

are you married ? if so, this is absolutely understandable.

The trick is to keep buying every week so there's no gap - a lovely surprise each week.
I'm waiting for a qi charger, xiaomi pen, puma laces, xiaomi vacuum, maths learning tool thingy, lightning cable with micro sd slot, meizu headphones and kogan TV.

Besides the TV and vacuum (which we wanted/needed), everything else is spare change/disposable include :)

I find it interesting that if we rocked up to a brick and mortar store and we saw 20% off sale signs everywhere we wouldn't give it a second look. See 20% off on eBay on OzBargain and everyone goes crazy.

    • 20% off b&m when they mark up their already marked up prices?

      nah man

Probably because most b&m stores have a perpetual "20%" off sale that is just them marking prices up then taking 20% off to bring it back to normal. At least with an eBay 20% sale there is a chance of getting something not price jacked.

What was the question again? ;)

My favourite is when you order something and they send you the completely wrong order (eg parts for a Janome 500 sewing machine). Then you get to wait for 3 months all over again having plenty of time to contemplate what you are going to do with the sewing machine parts you scored for free.

  • WTF ???

  • Sorry mate, the only underlying reason for me it's cheaper. Like the USB cables I really need, I could of paid the $6 for faster shipping, but no that's $6 I can spend elsewhere

  • If it weren't for (a) big price difference, (b) ease/laziness (posted as deal here, no need to do much research) - would avoid sellers who take weeks to ship.
E.g. Today, after waiting a month, wrong items arrived, have to ask here how to deal with it. Then, buy and wait cycle again …

PS. a bit off-topic, but would appreciate pointers about kind of shipping to return wrong items to ebay seller (asked here). Hardly post anything, esp to overseas, so a bit clueless.

True, I always get surprised when I receive a package, especially ones from China since they take a month. Buy the time it arrives, I've forgotten that I bought something, it's like Christmass every few weeks.

  • I'm pretty sure I ordered things from China and just never showed up or never shipped, I forgot what I bought anyway…
