To be fair, every competition that I have won to date has notified me via email. The competitions I won didn't even collect my address until they notified me that I won. I have also heard of people being emailed multiple times to ensure they claim their prize. Of course it all depends on the company running the competition.
Same for me. All the competitions I've won have involved me being notified via email. I am constantly keeping on top of my comp email every day though, so nothing could get lost.
Only time I was contacted by phone was when I didn't respond to the email and the lady phoned me to follow up. I was so out of it with the flu would never have known I'd won if she hadn't phoned. Mostly the contact is via email or the prize arrives in the mail or occasionally by facebook messenger. And yes I have missed out on prizes because I missed the email too!

Always seems dodgy when registering for a prize and they don't require a mobile number to contact winners on. (How many people would miss a prize win notification because it gets buried in their no essential mail folders.)
