Corsair Gaming K95 RGB Platinum Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (Cherry MX Brown or Speed Only) $263.20 @ JB Hi-Fi

140

I've been after a k95 Platinum for a long time but the price was extremely prohibitive ($320+).
JB Hifi currently have a 20% off sale on certain gaming hardware and they currently have the Corsair K95 Platinum included in this sale dropping the price to $263.20.
Most stores with have one or maybe two of these keyboards (Due to the normal price) and seem to carry only the Cherry MX Brown or MX Speed version.
This price is the lowest I've ever seen it for this keyboard in Australia.

MX Speeds are similar to MX Reds but they have a shorter 1.2mm actuation distance and they bottom out earlier. What this means is if you have a problem accidentally hitting keys with MX Reds then it's probably going to be worse and they may be noiser for typing.

I've just settled on a K65 RGB Rapidfire with MX Speeds. The design of these keyboards is really good: switches attached to a metal sheet which means you can pull the keys off to clean it properly, no circuitry exposed as with many kedyboards. Also metal means it's very solid feeling.

The claimed "faster" nature of MX Speeds in terms of gaming performance can be ignored but I'm using MX Speeds and MX Reds on a number pad at the same time at the moment and I think I prefer MX Speeds. They're very nice keys (and Corsair exclusive at the moment).

  • lol.
this time next year we'll have 1000$ keyboards,
that will type themselves lol all you have to do is glance at it

Ignoring the marketing spiel, what's the benefit of this keyboard over one half the price with MX Brown switches? Or compared to one that still has RGB lighting for almost $100 less (eg https://search.pccasegear.com/search?p=R&srid=S1-2SYDP&lbc=p…).

Genuinely curious as I'm thinking of buying a mechanical keyboard atm.

The K65 I think has a completely plastic body where as the K70 and K95 are 1-piece aluminium. Corsair recently released the K70 LUX RGB which in all honesty is almost identical to the K95 except it doesn't have macro keys on the left or the top RGB strip (it may, I am not sure). It is probably 1/2 the price of this keyboard and would be a much "smarter" buy. I already had a non-rgb K70 and had just "wanted" a K95 platinum for a while. The Strafe would be similar except you are getting plastic casing supports etc. to bring the price down.

    • I've got a k95 (which I'm typing on right now!), a Das 4 Ultimate and a Ducky One (which is your roughly hundred dollar keyboard).

The k95 feels a lot more solid than the Ducky. And I haven't had any LEDs die on it, unlike the Ducky. And the steel baseplate is much nicer than the tacky looking plastic on the Das. And media controls are great.

I also got it for dirt cheap. It's absolutely not a $300 keyboard, or even a $250 keyboard unless you play lots of games where you want the stupid macro buttons (which I hate enough that I'll probably sell it).
