How Do I Calculate PayPal Fees for Online Transactions in USD

I tried to look online and read PayPal's website but I'm still confused and need some confirmation.
I want to buy headphones from the US in USD, so from what I understand so far, Paypal can convert AUD to USD for me and will charge me a fee of 3.5% above the exchange rate. Will shipping cost be calculated as part of the fee because it is also being converted from USD to AUD?

For example:
$200 USD + $20USD shipping = 220USD
exchange rate (for example): $1AUD = 0.75USD
Does that mean paypal will charge me: [(220/0.75)*3.5]/100 = $10.26 ?

Also, is there such thing as a no fee option? If not, is there a cheaper way to go around this?

Thanks in advance

there is no fees for buyers if they use their credit card issuer currency conversion rate.

    • Could using the card issuer currency conversion rate = no fees work with a visa debit card as well?
And are you referring to the option of manually putting in the card details rather than choosing the pay with Paypal option?

the currency conversion is per transaction.

28 deg card is best for these if you don't want PayPal to convert

Before you confirm the transaction it tells you the exact rate it will convert at. That rate (higher than spot) includes all fees, so you get what you see.

    • Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a go.

  • I pay for intl items using my Amex through Paypal. Intl fees are waived by the bank, and its safe through Paypay…win-win

Yeah, unfortunately I should have mentioned this in the post, but I only have a debit card at the moment. But that's good to know about Amex though!

  • I want to pay 301 euro from my citibank aud card through paypal. I have selected to have this card only charge conversion fee with banks.
Im not sure if this works as last time i did this i selected i mean added a card i already had in my account where i maybe should have selected the card in my account to make it work.
But my issue is i have the sellers paypal id as its a private purchase and when i enter it asks in aud the amount which i add until i reach the euro amount. But its a good bit more than xe.com.
I thought i selected my card issuer to nominate my charge. You don't get asked what method your paying with until you select amounts first. Not only that will what it says seller gets?
I just want to pay minimum conversion fees and have seller get right amount of 301 euro can anyone explain best way to go about this.
