Outsourcing Price Comparison

Hi All,

Has anyone ever considered hiring someone to do price comparison for you?

For instance, i am renovating my kitchen at the moment. I have built kitchens in the past and generally i send a cut list to a joiner, he cuts all the pieces to size (like a flatpack) and i assemble the pieces together. Recently i have moved to Melbourne and i dont have my usual joiner and dont really have the time to go through all the joiners to find the cheapest.

It would be good if i could outsource this to another country and get them to do all the legwork. This could also be expanded for any "larger"purchases.

What are your thoughts?

  • Have you thought about using something like ServiceSeeking.com.au, put your list in and wait for the quotes to come back?

    • Problem with that is thats its only for the handful of people on service seeking.

      Not to mention this idea could be used for other things. For instance, say you wanted a specific laptop (say a xps13). Would it not be easier to ask this person to source that xps13 laptop. They could negotiate over the phone, online etc.

      Or even a car. Call up each dealership and haggle with the salesman. <—-Probably not the best example.

  • So you want to outsource to another country to find a joiner in this country? When I look at getting building stuff done I usually put up a posting on the Master Builders Association website. Not sure if they just do joinery stuff like you want but might be worth a look. You post up what you want done and then people contact you if they want to do the job. We've had good responses, and quality work done, from the people we have used through the site.

    • The kitchen was purely an example.

      Imagine the following;

      I need a washing machine,

      X please find me the cheapest washing machine with the following criteria;
      -must be front load
      -must have 2 year warranty
      -min 4 star rating,
      -4kg min
      -etc

      Then X would come back to me with a list of comparable washing machines with prices and from what retailer etc

      • Does union shopper so this sort of thing?

  • Look into virtual assistants - often Philipines workers are good because of low pay and excellent English.

  • +3

    If you have a credit card with 'concierge' service, apparently they can be used for this sort of thing

  • How much are you willing to pay?

    How are you assured of the lowest price (or the low price to which you're happy)? E.g. if you pay bugger all, then the person doing it might stop at say the best price out of 3 calls.

  • +1

    There are like, three people in the world I trust to do as good a job price comparing as me, and they are all out posting great deals on this site.
    Paying someone to do a worse job than I would do myself would kill me!

    • Pretty much this. I also come here because a long time ago I learnt I am not the best at always finding things and it is impossible to fly know the internet (at all times 25/7 unless you are a robot haha lol which I am not I am an alien we build robots not mate with them lol.. also and there is always tonnes of other people that are robots or just really good at what they do and can help me).

      Welcome to Ozbargain OP just post what you need in the right places and people will come and help you or try and start your own new website fully dedicated to your idea and you can even expand it into other countries etc and make a new item hunting revolution similar to Ozbargain but global haha lol.

  • Hmm yeah sounds like you need a virtual PA / concierge type service.
