I've only been going a couple of months too. I have won a handful of things. Mostly smaller things, a couple of $5 Steam games etc. I have won a couple of more expensive things but although still around the $100 mark. This over the last three months.
My thoughts:
- Don't go too hardcore. This is not a time effective way to make money. I treat it like a hobby, it's a bit of fun, and a nice buzz when I win anything … including the $5 steam games :)
- You can calculate your odds on some of the gleam apps … generally it's not great! Occasionally I see something under 1 in 100 and I consider that good! More generally it's like 1 in 1000+. Let's say on average you need to enter roughly 100, 1 in 100 comps to win something more significant, it could still be months before you win one. If I could drop a few of those a year I'd consider it a win. I suspect it might take a year easy to rack up 100 of those comps. But each ten 1 in 1000 comps kind of equals one 1 in a hundred … so they do count.
- Don't forget when calculating the odds to include the number of prizes offered. A 1 in 1000 comp which offers 10 prizes is excellent :)
- So two nice $100 wins in three months seems like it might be slightly above average for me.
- I personally concentrate on the things that interest me. For me it's mostly tech and things the family could use and enjoy.
Just my 2c. Others with more experience can probably give better estimates.
Just a question for anyone reading this (looked for a forum for compers and couldn't find anything)
How often do you find yourselves winning comps?
I've been going hardcore for the last 3 weeks or so and I'm yet to win (about 90 comps have ended in that time)
I know I'll win something eventually with perseverance, once I do I'll feel like the hours of time spent entering comps so far has been worth it, hahaha!
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask questions! Feel free to direct me to a forum or something!
