Looking for Smart Meter in-Home Display (IHD) Product (as Part of Government Incentive)

One of my mates told me that he received a smart meter in-home display (IHD) for his new house from a door-to-door sales around a year ago or so

I'm interested to get this free stuff too (who does not?!); unfortunately, he forgot the name of the company that did it.

I've Googled it and found vic energy saver site provided the list of companies that do it.

I've checked the companies in Metro Melbourne area, unfortunately, you need to pay for it (example: http://www.smartuser.com.au/compare/).

Does anyone know any company that will be able to install and provide this device for free as part of the government incentive?

  • I've got an Intercel eKo IHD which communicates wireless to the smart-meter.

It is good when it works - periodically it loses connection and needs to be re-paired to the smart meter which is a bit of a pain.

Retailer/manufacturer extremely unhelpful, strung me along for a year promising a firmware update, before telling me it was out of warranty. Couldn't be bothered following up.

Many years ago i setup a energy meter (Watts Clever) which had a clamp that goes over each phase of the house wiring in the power box. Depending on whether you have an exposed loop of cable you may not be able to use it without getting an electrician involved.

This system never, ever fails and would be my preference.

I believe the newer system (https://www.wattsclever.com.au/collections/energy-monitors/p…) works by sensing the "blinks" on the non-spinning type disc meters. This means you wouldn't need a clamp.

I'd personally go the watts clever if i didn't already have the eKo.

  • Thanks for everyone's reply, at the end, I installed powerpal using government rebate, but due to the location of the power panel that is a bit of the distance from home, the connections is on and off.

Due to this, I also installed a clamp type measurement device, efergy from FB marketplace
