Data Recovery from an Android Stuck in Bootloop

Hi All -

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Pro with unlocked bootloader and running Xiaomi EU Rom (Android 6). I bought the phone in May so it is a relatively new phone.I turned off my phone on a flight and it has never booted back after that. It is stuck in a boot loop. It has some very recent pics and videos of my 8 months old daughter that I desperately want to save. Thre is no SD card in the phone. However, I cannot get the phone to be detected by the computer/ boot in recovery etc. I have tried a few DIY from online forums but to no avail. Thinking of taking it to a professional recovery short. The following names showed in google results:

1.Technetics Data Recovery
2.Payam Data Recovery
3.F5 IT

Has anyone used them before? How was your experience? Do you have any recommendations or DIY methods that I could use?

Thanks much,
Sid

If you've got an unlocked bootloader have you tried to get it into fastboot mode?

Your best bet is going to be trying to access them yourself and/or recover from the bootloop.

Professional data recovery is going to be prohibitively expensive

Try posting on XDA forums for help and see what comes back. That would be your best option imo.

If you have an unlocked bootloader, have you tried to "fastboot boot" (from bootloader mode obviously) a custom recovery, eg TWRP? You don't even have to flash it. From TWRP you can use adb to backup the phone to your PC.

  • Thanks for your responses. I can get to the fastboot mode, but cannot get into recovery. I flashed TWRP as well through ADB, but the phone just doesn't boot into TWRP recovery. I know data recovery will be expensive, but keeping it as the last resort if nothing works. How can TWRP be used without flashing it on the phone?

    • To boot a recovery, rather than flashing, you just use "fastboot boot" commands instead of "fastboot flash", except you don't need to specify the partition:

      fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1-0.img

      • I may have tried this without success but will give it a shot again. Thanks.

  • Was the device encrypted, if so you've got zero chance of file restoration via data recovery.

    • It was not encrypted.

  • When you get your data back I recommend starting a secret group on Facebook that you're the only member of (or plus family if they are interested) that you post all your pics of your daughter to. Once pics are on the web they are (hopefully) forever. Best of luck!!!

Trust me, I have learnt my lesson! I just hope that I get my data back one way or the other. Thanks for the suggestion though. Cheers!
