LASIK Surgery Recommendation

Hi

I need recommendation for good lasik surgery in Sydney to correct eye sight for long distance and short distance.

For those people who has done it, is it a waste of money, do you need to still wear your glasses?

I am 44 years old and has wear glasses since I was 12

Thanks for the advice

    Hi mate ,

I did PRK 3 times and I still need my glasses for everything but being in front of my PC. Laser dosnt work for everyone and I wouldn't mess with your eyes for something that might not work 100%. At your age I would look at replacing your naturaal lense to correct your vision issues, stay away from laser. Any procedure that removes tissue from your cornea to not go near because when its gone its gone for good. For reading there is a laser procedure to correct it that procedure they don't actually remove any tissue but since you long sighted I don't see a point.

  • I recommend this guy. http://www.eye.net.au

If you decide to go ahead with it. PM me and I will give you my name. You get a discount if you are referred by a patient.

  • Don't do it!

Best thing I've ever done for myself. I started wearing glasses at around 19yrs for shortsightedness. I was one of those people who wore my glasses all day everyday. I occasionally wore contacts for activities like snowboarding.
Then at age 35 I had LASIK and my vision was restored to perfect. 5 years on, no deterioration.

The freedom!!! To wake up in the morning and not have to reach for your glasses. To be able to swim at the beach and actually see properly. To not be hidden behind lenses all day long.

It is not suitable for everyone, which is why you go for the initial consultation, and they tell you if you can get it, and how good the outcome may be.

The procedure itself is quite unpleasant but fortunately it is over really quickly and you are home soon after, and the recovery is fast. In my opinion, totally worth it.

    • My optometrist said I was a suitable candidate a few years ago, may I ask how you got over the "unpleasantness" looming before the procedure? Cost aside, I don't think I could bring myself to do it, even though I dream for

      • There's a fair bit of angst and rightly so, it's your vision after all. To counteract this myself, firstly this was one thing I didn't go cheap on. I wanted the best that was available. It cost me a small fortune, but hey, is it worth trying to save a buck for your eyesight?

Then I kept reminding myself how they've successfully been doing laser surgery for many years, and it was also good to hear from other people who had positive results.

Finally, on the day, they give you strong painkillers and valium to settle your nerves. It's a real production line, and once they call your name from the waiting room, it feels like you are out again in about 20 minutes. That's the best part - it really is very quick.

  • I had my procedure coming up to 8 years ago and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. I went with PersonalEyes and underwent LASIK in Parramatta. I have had no issues at all and love the complete freedom of being able to see and focus without glasses.

    • Yep I also did surgeries at there PersonalEyes no sucess then after taking my money Dr Meads ''oh do you spend alot of time on the computer?, because you know that might be the issue''. And I am like ''yes I was very clear about the fact that I do during my consulation''. I would defenetly stay away from that place.

  • I had it done nearly 12 years ago and it was one of the best decisions i've ever made. The freedom from glasses was well worth it.

  • @Siasia, did you end up doing it?

  • What's the price range to do LASIK in Sydney? Thinking of doing it this December since I won't be able to travel anyway.

Sydney Eye Clinic with Dr Ilan Sebban now $1500/eye and no referral discounts now afaik. Budget an extra $200 or so for meds.
