Recently purchased a Hatchimals for my daughters birthday off eBay, most stores were out of stock. Ebay title said AU seller and "Hatchimals by Spin Master toys". paid about $70. Waited a few weeks and got a "Hatchanimals" counterfeit toy instead, from China. I contacted seller a told them I knew It was a fake. They said worker in factory make mistake and spelt Hatchimals wrong and willing to refund $10. I told them I was going to report to ebay and they refunded completely. If I didn't pay attention and realise it was a counterfeit item it would be easy to get ripped off. Keep an eye out if purchasing Hatchimals as Christmas presents.

used….huh…? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Sorry, I couldn't resist…. 😅
Hey thanks for making it like it was my fault for not being vigilant. But you've actually shown an item from the wrong seller. The seller I purchased from says the item ships from Sydney. Also had no negative feedback regarding Hatchimals at the time of purchase.
So, link to the listing…?
Ken, I would consider reporting the seller anyway once you have your refund secured. Sounds like the seller is deliberately scamming Ebay buyers…
It's clearly 'not as described' and also not a mistake by the seller.
Is there any special steps to report the seller. I only put in a claim as item not as described and they refunded.
Good luck getting ebay to do anything about china based sellers. They rule now.
paid about $70
And that should've raised alarm bells to start with. These sell out at $100 in stores, yet someone has them for $70…?
Hey spaceback, have you never got a better price off ebay before. Would hardly say it's ridiculously cheap price.
For an in-demand item, it is
Whilst my comments may sting because of your purchase, I'm trying to help educate you and anyone reading this as to what to spot. You say you didn't think it was fake, yet the signs were there, just not very in your face.
Well my ebay feedback is pushing 1000. And majority of that is purchases. I do no research at all, and this would be the first dodgy item yet.
Do you want a medal?
My feedback rating is 82, yet I spotted those abnormalities with ease.
There's fakes all over eBay, sellers saying they ship from within Australia when they're actually not, etc etc. The key is spotting these people so you either a) pay a premium for a grey-import item thinking it's local, or b) have to go through the headaches of getting a refund.
Actually, if it's the one I am thinking of, Costco had a whole lot for $79.
So yeah, sometimes you can find stuff less than the going rate.
Yes you do, but the negs are obviously from people who don't have kids. Hatchimals are highly sought after items, the listing has that 'too good to be true' feel to it.
That's fine, as I said I saw the issues with the listing within seconds of looking, OP is just naive.
OP you may as well name and shame.
raise dispute as SNAD, provide photographs, email Hatchimals via [email protected] (their corporate email address) and tell them the ebay seller that was selling the fake toys
Seller has already refunded. Seller is yl1988122 900+ feedback at 98.7%. Seems all the negatives were in the last few days for similar item.

Mate I don't care, I'm not going to sift through 20 listings looking for clues. It says Hatchimals, it says AU seller. I used paypal.
I'm not going to sift through 20 listings looking for clues
That information was on the one listing, under the seller's profile.
You do care, and should care, if you're going to purchase again from eBay.
Sorry, did you come here for a shoulder to cry on?
@Spackbace:
There's plenty of positive feedback on sellers feedback too.
No I didn't come here for a shoulder to cry on, not that you would care anyway, seems all you want to do is victim blame.
I came here to warn people.I came here to warn people.
As did I.
It's easy to say 'avoid this seller', but it's more productive to go 'here's what to look out for on eBay to avoid buying the wrong shit', wouldn't you agree?
@Spackbace:
So what's to look out for, that the sellers in Hong Kong? It's ebay, sellers are based all over the world. Feedback was 98.7%.Before purchasing any item look at the negative feedback, not just the number. This user has 98.7% for their whole store and for the past 12 months, not for the product you are purchasing and it's not just recent feedback.
In the past month the user has 127 positive and 11 neutral/negative which is only 92% positive, by simply clicking the negative feedback number in the past month you are presented with this which shows they are selling fakes for the item you are purchasing, infact all the negative feedback is for that:
Fake product, not genuine. Seler lied about location too, sent from china not UK

Agree with op, you dont need to be rude to them and make it seem that it is their fault…Sorry, but when were any of my initial comments being rude?
make it seem that it is their fault…
That's right, I forgot that no one these days can admit any sort of fault.

$70 for a stuffed toy? Wow.
It's actually an interactive electronic toy. It does stuff. Buggered if I know what exactly, but it's what my daughter asked for and I'm happy to buy it for her.
She knows what it does, it's a secret….
I still have the fake, so I might have to open it up and see how bad it actually is. This is the main reason for my post, I did read through the sellers recent feedback and a lot of people have purchased the same item. Leaving positive feedback saying "can't wait to see my daughters face Christmas morning".
Lesson to learn here is to assume everything on ebay that can be a fake, is a fake, so if you need it soon then you have to do your due diligence researching the listing and feedback (it is possible to get unlucky and have the seller be selling genuine ones and then switch to fake ones at exactly the time you buy one, but unlikely). If you get a fake (of anything) and there was evidence of it you really have only yourself to blame - if a case of not enough experience hopefully you only need to learn the lesson once!
Blindly trusting a listing to be for exactly what it says is like going to a open air market in Bangkok and expecting to come home with genuine blurays.
Also, nitpicking, but - ebay don't sell anything (except the service of hosting your sales and providing buyer protection). It is a platform for independent sellers to sell on.
Plenty of fakes online, especially 'big ticket' toys like 'KO' Masterpiece Transformers and 'Lepin' Lego. Always double check and read negative feedback. If someone calls them out for a fake and the price is suspiciously cheap, it probably is.
Also check the sellers other items up for sale. Apart from seller being in HK but item location listed as Sydney (alarm bells), the other item the seller is selling is a fake.
I opened up the fake item and I must say they have done an excellent job of copying the original. I checked out an unboxing video on YouTube of a genuine one and it is amazing how good they have copied it. The manuals and the packaging is exact. Every reference to Hatchimals is changed to hatchanimals.
The toy is an extremely good copy too. Does a lot of the things an original one does. I don't think many people will actually realise they have purchased a counterfeit item.A full refund and a free hatchanimals. What more can one ask for.
Just give her the toy. She'll love it all the same.

Reading the negatives - The signs were there. Many reports of fakes of different products

You really need to learn to inspect the listings better
