Group buy annoyance

What are your opinions ozbargainers, but whats been annoying me lately about group buys, mostly spreets and scoopon since they the only ones doing it, so i wont paint all of them with the same brush. But what they do is offer a deal, for 24 hours, ok, thats fine. But when the next day u see it in the side deal. Ok the side deal expires, and after that the side deal gets extended for even longer.

Whats the go with that? why not just have the deal expire when you say it does.

It annoys me because i feel compelled to make a decision when really i have much more time, and sometimes if i dont have enough time to consult with with my family or missus to see how many they want i end up buying (more or less than i need)

Sorry, a little rant by me.

Most likely the merchant wanted a particular number of sales. So if they don't reach the quota they extend the sale. The ticking clock is only to make you feel a sense of urgency. If there aren't that many takers, probably it wasn't such a hot deal after all.

    • well thats what the minimum in the deal is for, once it reaches XX amount the deal is on.

      • No, that's not what the OP was talking about. He meant that for example a 24-hour buy it or miss it special got extended into a second or third day.

  • It's annoying, but you're more likely to buy on impulse if you think it's going to expire soon. By extending the deal past the 24 hrs, it gives the opportunity for people with second thoughts to purchase the deal. Maximises sales from both groups of people.

  • with my scoopon experience it said it'll expire in 3 days, and that it did. which was good. but i know how you feel, bit deceiving for them to extend it and rush you. i've had similar experiences in the past

One would think you would be buying on the merit of the deal rather then the time it has left? If its extended for longer, great, more peolple (including ourselves) get a chance to buy if we missed it earlier.

    • that's a good benefit in general zhenjie, for a harddrive as an example. extra time would be great, and the people who initially purchased it wouldn't have a problem either.

but in this scenario, we're talking about Spreets and Scoopon, i'm not sure if you're familiar with their deals but take this scenario; mr cloudy comes home from work (maybe late at night), he sees Scoopon has a restaurant buffet special, this only gives him less than X hours to call everyone and organize the whole thing in order to purchase the tickets before the time runs out. and depending on the people, organizing can be frustrating.

or say cloudys' missus is at work and he's constantly trying to get ahold of her to see if she wants to go and explain the whole offer in a short amount of time. or his family wants to lookover the offer thoroughly before they want a ticket. it may lead him to buy more or less tickets as mentioned which causes more dramas. then the site decides to extend the deal for another 2 days which kind of messes you around. there can be many problems. i only say this from experience and can understand where he's coming from.

      • exactly, instead of offering someone a 2nd chance as Zhenjie, why not just say from the begining it goes for 3 days, instead of saying it goes for 24 hours and then 2 days right after?

I dont buy on impulse i do buy coz the deal is what i want, but i do want to discuss if this voucher is something for me and my partner, or something that is good for me and my whole family if there is the time.

  • i agree with all of the above. As per sites like COTD, i know sooner or later it will pop up again, so i dont rush it :)

    • COTD keeps selling the same crp every week, lol. but these deal sites dont always repeat i think.

      • its funny when you see the same deal, just with a different site. it's good when u've already tried it and would like a 2nd go.
