Woolworths Everyday Rewards Mastercard. 16,000 Bonus QFF Points / $1 = 1 Point / $89 Annual Fee

20

This seems like a pretty good deal, I don't know of any other MasterCard that offers 1 point per $1.00 spent. You have to pay the $89 annual fee (not waived for first year) but the 16,000 points are worth more than the fee.

The interest rate is 19.99% on purchases and 20.99% on cash advances so if you leave debt on a card beyond the interest free days this isn't the card for you.

As well as earning one Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar you spend on most purchases, you can expect many great benefits every time you use your Woolworths Everyday Rewards Qantas credit card.

$89 annual fee, which includes a 24/7 Concierge Service

    • Most, if not all, QFF rewards credit card are going to have a high interest rate and a annual fee that is up there.

If you don't pay your credit card off before the interest kicks in then you are obviously much better off getting a low rate / no rewards card. But for a QFF card this is a pretty good deal compared to the rest, to get $1 = 1 point on a mastercard elsewhere the cheapest annual fee is $137 http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/partners/card .

    • The site fails to detail its claim that it's "pricey way to get points". If it is, then how do we view other Visa & Mastercard reward cards that offer only 1 QFF point for every $2 spend?

    • The article is a little pointless.

It is the cheapest Visa/Mastercard credit card which offers $1 / 1 point.
Of course there are cheaper credit cards (or even free) but the points scheme determines the fee you pay.

As for the interest rate, it is pretty normal

  • Pity about the $89p.a. fee :(

    • no annual fee for the 1st year for staff so that's 16,000 QFF pts for free!
      http://everydayrewards.com.au/staff

note that this is a platinum card with a minimum income requirement of $50,000pa

      • Nice perk there but how many typical Woolworth's employees make more than 50K/pa?

  • although the idea of additional points appeal to me, I really hate the day when there is points inflation and getting good stuff for your points, just costs more points than before.

  • If you compare value for $ spent vs the Points for frequent flyer then this is no where near the best

    $14500 = 14500 points = $100 gift card

Try Myer card where $10000 = 10000 points = $100 gift card Annual fee $39

And given that you can get return flights Melb to Sydney Jetstar, Tiger etc for $80 or less 15000 QFF points are not that valuable

I think it's difficult to generalise. Value will be based on each cardholder's usage of their points. A good example is QFF points redemption for a return flight to Singapore. During peak season (eg. Xmas) the airfare can cost $1,200 (excluding taxes) for the cheapest seat. But the number of points required to redeem this is 60,000 points. On this basis the implied value of 15,000 points is $300. Alternatively one can redeem 120,000 points for a return business class seat for the same route. The airfare could be $3,800 for the cheapest seat in December. This gives 15,000 points a value of $475.

I am just highlighting the potential value of QFF points. Obviously the higher value proposition may not be applicable for everyone. Frequent flyers with ability to accumulate significant QFF points and are organised enough to make advance bookings (to address limited award seats) will benefit the most. I gather that those who do not fly Qantas would not be attracted to this in the first instance.

    • Likewise Myer Visa card is great for regular Myer shoppers. Great points earning potential if used at Myer (3 points per $1 up to maximum of 2,000 points per month). Points can only be used to redeem Myer gift card which can only be used at Myer. A true Myer experience. :)

      • Yes in both cases you are correct.

Although added to this is that you have to pay taxes and surcharges on frequent flyer redemptions. On a trip to the US 3 years ago this was $350 per ticket. Worth paying as it was then going to be $2200 to buy outright. But seats were VERY limited, had to fly SYD-MEL-AKL-LAX and pay for Overnight in MEL on way out.

Yes Myer cards are limited, and not as usable as Woolies - DS Caltex BigW etc. But likewise QFF limits you to comparing prices on Qantas flights.

I was trying to indicate, like you have as well, that the "hype" that the OP put on this "bargain" needs to be carefully considered.

BTW the $2000PM (2000 points) cap you mention is for purchases outside Myer, not in total. But agree that you need to consider this as well.

And we think choosing a mobile phone plan is hard LOL

I don’t know of any other MasterCard that offers 1 point per $1.00 spent.

    There are lots.
You just need to look at the cards which are not offered with an American express.
As soon as the banks bundle an American express with the Visa/Mastercard they cut the points on the Visa/Mastercard

    • Can you let me know who else does these at a similar annual fee? My westpac earth credit cards annual fee is due and Im looking for a non amex $1 / 1 point card to replace it.

      • This is the cheapest Qantas point card which does $1 / 1 point

The next cheapest is card services direct (which is citibank) http://www.cardservicesdirect.com.au/AUCRD/APPS/portal/Welco…

        • This may be the next cheapest, but it's still $137.
And even though they're underwritten by Citigroup, I'd be giving these guys a wide berth…
That is one dodgy looking site :)

The next best deal was if you happened to get the Citibank Gold/Platinum cards fee-free for life and then opt in for $49 per year @ 1:1, which is what I've done

      • The go master card has no annual fee and is a $1 / 1 point card for purchases outside HN group and 1.25 points if used at HN. However its not a qantas FF earning card. BTW has anyone successfully transfered over from the old money card to this new woolies qantas card and gotten the annual fee waived?

        • What's the point of comparing 1:1 cards when they use a different rewards system?
If you're going to start doing that, there are crap loads of cards out there that have this.

        • Refer to ozpete's comments above. Highly recommend that one take time to assess the value of each reward point linked to an in-house non-airline reward program. It differs from one program to another.

    • Can you provide some examples of non-Amex cards costing $89pa or less that offers 1 Qantas point per $1 spend? Thanks.
