Hi all.
I'm currently signed up to Optus' "unlimited" adsl2 broadband plan. I find that after 2-3 hour's use of an iptv box my internet essentially cuts off, with downloads dropping to around 10kbps across all connected devices.
I telephoned Optus to enquire and was told on the third time it happened that the reason was due to "significant uploads of around one gigabite" the day it happened. I was told that a home user shouldn't be uploading that much and that Optus have a 1gb daily upload limit and once this is exceeded, your connection will be throttled (more like cut off). I know the box is responsible and that's the only source my uploads are coming from. I don't torrent or game.
I read through all terms and conditions related to my bundle, including the Fair Go policy and found zero mention of uploads, let alone a 1gb limit. I was previously with TPG and used the box daily without issue. Is anyone aware of such upload limits (especially capped at only 1gb) or think this is right? Do you think I have a right to terminate the contract if not?
Finally, I read in the Fair Go policy that Optus would contact me prior to limiting my service to discuss any issue associated with Fair Go breaches, which obviously didn't happen.
Thank you.
I am no longer surprised by any telco stunt.
Make sure you screenshot all the conditions then go to the TIO website and make a complaint. The issue will magically improve and they'll presumably set about degrading someone else's service and inventing conditions that restrict the service.
