What Type Cooling Should I Get in Melbourne West Area?

So I live in a two story house.
I have breamer ducted heating with 4 zones.
Also have a 3 months old child.

What type cooling should I get?
Hallidays installed my heating and gave me quote of $4600 for 5 outlets of evap cooling. Model: breamer LCQ350. And $5100 for 6 ducts.

I know evap cooling is very reliable to run as it will only run a fan and use littlebit of water.
We don’t get a lot humid days so I think this may be a good option.
Unsure of maintaining this type cooling or servicing costs. Is it expensive to maintain in a long run?

Any suggestions?
Any recommendations?
Any bargains?

Please ask if you need more info.
Need to get this done ASAP.

  • I know someone that just built a house just west of Williams Landing train station. They installed evaporative.

  • evaporative…..meh

get a quote for spilt system/s

    then come back here

    • Any reasons or experience?
Split system would be a lot more expensive for a 30sq house.

      • Used to live in Altona. It is relatively humid during hot days in that area.

You don't have to install a/c to cool every room.

We had one split that cooled the living space and a second external unit (with 3 internal heads) cooling the bedrooms.

The massive issue we had with our old evap, is that you have to open windows to get it to work. You can't open north facing windows when a hot northerly is blowing and 2 of our bedrooms were north facing.

If all the rooms you are looking to cool have south or southeast facing windows, then you should be right, but with north or northwest facing, you'll have issues cooling them (when the really hot windy days hit)

        • I do have some northwest facing windows but some are in other direction so hopefully that will work.
Should I get 1 extra outlet in open area of my first story to pump that cold air thru?

        • Any recommendations on what brand evap to get?

        • @whatevs5656:

Why not get some quotes for a couple of splits as described?

        • @oscargamer: I have been. 😊

  • Evaporative can only do so much. On humid days, it barely moves the air around let alone cools the house.

That being said, not every day is humid in Melbourne. I would suggest evaporative for the entire house, with one main room (that can be closed off completely) to install a split system for those days when the evaporative is useless.

Trust me, it makes a difference.

    • Thanks for your input jjjaar. Thinking to go ahead with evap and a split.
Any recommendations on what brand to go with?
