3 questions in order of importance:-
- What is the ozbargain-acceptable price point for a 4-plug? 8-plug?
- If online/catalogued, could I please have a link?
- Just how many amps for surge current is relevant? What does that even mean?
Once upon a time, I burnt the motherboard of an American laptop from a power surge(though it was in China, using an American-to-Chinese plug converter). Currently remodeling my home office in Brisbane and feel like preventing such shenanigans now that I'm no longer on a student budget. Until now I've been using a regular 4-way board from Officeworks and to be quite honest it feels like having sex in Thailand with a lovely Danish backpacker girl using no condom. It's risky but it could be riskier.
I've seen ridiculously in-depth discussions before on this topic so I know you surge protection experts are out there.
Generally surge protection power boards do very little, so don't worry too much about what you have.
You'll need a UPS if you want decent protection.
