Nice see a realistic recommendation for the BS marketing numbers.

Might be worth mentioning the shipping cost before the self appointed OzBargain police come p!ssing and moaning.

Obviously, you can configure the tent layout it in many different ways, but from a practical sense… we try to keep it real. Have included shipping info - thanks! Cheers, Ben

  • RRP of $849.90 is a bit of a stretch Ben.
I thought Snowys were better than that sort of tactic….

    • +4

Sorry! Corrected the $0.90. Cheers, Ben

Not really sure how I should take your comment Ben…
I was more referring to your inflated costing model.
If intended as sarcasim I think I will take my business elsewhere for future transactions.

Not at all, my apologies for the confusion. $849.00 is the RRP provided by Coleman so I'm now not sure what point you're trying to make? Our pricing structure is committed to offering the lowest price everyday, which very rarely moves, so we're pretty excited to be able to go even lower than that for the next 10 days. Cheers, Ben

        • @BenfromSnowys: Cheers Ben…

        • @BenfromSnowys: Winner Winner Chicken Dinner !

    • True, wasn't hard to find 2 other Aussie sellers advertising this for $470 shipped.

But not for $449.90 and delivered free ;). Think of what you can do with that extra $20!!! #possibilities Cheers, Ben

I have this tent and rate it.. It suit us (family of 4) can fit 4 camp stretchers and all the gear.. It is super easy to put up but it is very heavy and is massive when it packs down - would not fit easily in many cars

    • Great feedback! Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Ben

  • +1

Yep. Seems everywhere else has it for $469. So really a flash $20 off sale.

Snowys even had it for $469.90 in July - https://web.archive.org/web/20170704011535/https://www.snowy…

We still see this as a big deal Nick - our everyday low price is normally rock solid, so we're pretty pumped that we can go even lower than that! Cheers, Ben

      • So maybe just say "Save a further $20 off our normal everyday low price"?

    • So it's $20 cheaper than elsewhere? if so why the Neg?

      • +1

It's not a $400 saving as was originally stated - I see that has now been removed so will remove the neg.

        • Sorry for the confusion, Nick. We appreciate the feedback and interest in our products. Cheers, Ben

  • That's a $400 saving!

Doesn't seem like it's a true $400 saving because I did a quick search and found the places (links below) that look like they have an "every day" price of around $470.

Yes, your price is slightly cheaper, but it's a little misleading to use the words "flash sale" and "save $400"

That was the point I was trying to make…but made a mess of it :)

All good. Thanks again for the feedback. Always interested to hear in how we can best communicate to our customers. Cheers, Ben

  • Good tent, but need to upgrade pegs and poles if you need to camp in windy places.

    • +1

Don't forget to take tension in your guy ropes as well! Very important to help stabilise the tent, especially in the wind! Cheers, Ben

Not affiliated but my 2c worth was that Snowy's sold me a tent, which failed after just a year of being used (3 times for overnight stays). They were excellent, and liaised with the manufacturer for me, fully aware of the realities of the "12 month" warranty being rubbish compared to ACL expectations, and provided an acceptable solution all round with supplier to me.

The replacement should last a while but as a result anything over a few $ I'd rather support that business so have bought most of my camping purchases from Snowy's since then.

Very telling how a company deals with you after the sale, especially in an industry where you tend to make irregular bigger purchases, so aren't a regular repeat customer in that sense. I was impressed.

Any yes, RRP is always crazy, but everyone else seems to report it as $ of RRP, not $ of their normally lowish price so it's not like they're being unduly devious! One of the joys of living with marketing!

Thanks so much for sharing this. Sorry again that you had issues with your tent to begin with, but glad we got a resolution in the end. We're always working to provide the best possible after-sales service, whether it be for a $10 bottle or $1000 tent, so to hear this feedback is assuring. Cheers, Ben

  • so hypothetically I was interested in starting camping with the family (me + wife + 2 little kids)

Anyone know of a list detailing the basics I would need in addition to the tent, or rough $?

Regular camp sites, and limited to station wagon boot space…

    • Really depends on the level of comfort everyone's okay with. As a kid I used to camp with dad and everything would fit in the boot of a sedan with plenty of space to spare. My wife needs more creature comforts the two of us and two young kids take waaaaay too much gear.

Starting off is a catch 22 in that cheap camping gear either doesn't last or is poorly designed and since (I'm guessing) you haven't spent much time camping you don't know if you'll enjoy it yet.

My advice is to spend a few hundred on a decent tent (if the weather's bad you'll regret a cheap tent) and buy (or borrow) some cheapish mattresses, chairs and an esky. Find some friends who are experienced campers and head out with them for a few days to see how you like it.

Start off taking stuff from home (blankets, cutlery, crockery etc) to see how you like it. They'll have all the cooking/washing gear some shelter if the weather turns (tents are just for sleeping).

Setting up and packing up all the crap are my least favourite aspects of camping and I won't go with the family for less than 4 nights.

      Regular camp sites

Where are you? Can the Mrs (or you) cope with drop toilets or taking a shovel to make your own? Are you confident staying in a remote location without reception? Wikicamps is a great reference for campsites.

  • Harvey Norman have it for $347 or is it different? Yours seems to be the Gold version.
