Also make sure you check the price via Mobile device - I saved about $10 yesterday using Mobile (vs Desktop). Codes etc still work on Mobile.
Interesting. I've read the opposite: that "the industry" considers charging more on a mobile because they figure if someone is looking for a hotel on their mobile, then it's more urgent.
I'm wondering if maybe your desktop was a Mac? Some companies consider Mac owners more affluent and charge them more.
