No Response from DWI Digital Cameras on Warranty Claim

Hello guys,

I purchased a Galaxy S8 from the dwi-digital-cameras eBay store a few months back. Now the device is unfortunately stuck in a bootloop and does not work anymore. I have tried the common fixes like Smart Switch, Odin flash etc. to no avail.

I am now trying to get DWI involved to either fix or replace it. It's been less than a year so it's still covered under warranty.

Except I'm having difficulties getting them to even respond to me. I first went through their website which informed me that their customer service doesn't cover DWI eBay purchases and that I would have to go through their eBay page. I contacted the seller on there and have not received a response as of yet and it has been around 2 weeks.

I am quite disappointed with their service thus far. I made this post to see if anyone else has any suggestions or have gone through the same issue with them. I was under the assumption that DWI was a trustworthy seller but that may not be the case apparently.

Thanks.

  • Samsung?

    • ITs probably a Grey import.

      • Not probably but 1000 percent they are.

    • Yeah Samsung Galaxy S8 grey import

  • -2

Sorry I can't help you, hope you get it sorted.

I do have query however: why are grey import deals on high value phones so popular on OzBargain when there is only 10-15% saving compared to local stock?

    • I purchased the phone for about 770 quite close to launch while the RRP was 1200 so it was a significant saving.

That said, the purchase obviously came with its drawbacks…

      • Ok thanks.

There was $1050 presale at Mobileciti but yeah that's still significant saving, I can see why it may be worth it for some in that case.

Forward 4 months it was available for $800 at Bing Lee last month.

  • Bummer, but what did you expect? There's a reason why grey import is considerably cheaper than local stock. Don't get me wrong, I but grey all the time, but I realize the risk involved. You can only try, but they'll most likely to stuff you around until it goes away. Your only bet is a PP dispute claim, but that only works close to the purchase date.

    • While I did expect warranty to be more of a pain with sending phones overseas and whatnot, I definitely didn't expect to not have warranty at all.

      • I feel your pain, but always assume worse-case scenario.

    • If you are considering buying a grey import you basically have to assume there will be no warranty available to you if something goes wrong.

If more people realised this I doubt grey imports would be as popular.

It may help if there was a suitable warning to go along with the relevant deal posts.

    Bullshit. Email them again.

Nowhere https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/warranty/ on there does it mention eBay.

At the same time, contact eBay on their live chat and show them screenshots of you contacting them. 2 weeks is unacceptable…

Your profile says Sydney so a visit to Samsung could also work… I know it's a grey import but they might help.

    • I shall get in touch with eBay. I didn't know that was an option.

I'm in Europe on exchange at the moment and Samsung Europe won't touch it as I don't have European warranty. I would assume Samsung Australia would respond the same way :/

  • Doesn't flashing with Odin void the warranty / set the 'Warranty Void' flag? I know mine does on the S7

    • I'm not entirely sure what trips Knox and voids the warranty but flashing the stock firmware does not.
Mine is still fine as per the download mode screen
