May be some some good stacking here. Spend $300 or more, get $75 back for Amex if you have it. Then they have a 30% off right now (ending 20Th) for stays 8th December 2017 and 11th March 2018. Assuming if you have paid rewards card you'd get better discount.

Generally if you contact the hotels directly they will match the deals on the major hotel sites, it is certainly worth an email to ask. Look into hotels loyalty deals, particularly if you are booking a few months in advance, you might get discounts and/or upgrades to rooms and you get points for future booking. Although some of the major sites have this as well so do your research.look for extras like free shuttles, this can offset some of the price differential in rooms.
Also look into air bnb if you are going to be in one place for more than a couple of days. Having a whole apartment is very nice, rather than one room.
