Help Me Find Some Car Options

Hi Everyone,
Hope you are having a lovely day :)

I am currently looking to upgrade my car to something that is quiet and has some nice features!! ;) . Help me find some more options if possible?

The car can be upto 2 years old but should stay under 30k and under 30000kms. Very important to have some warranty left(the more the better).

must have s : AEB, quiet cabin ,adaptive cruise control, navigation/android auto. 125kw+, automatic

nice to have: ventilated seats, wireless phone charger, leather seats, paddle shifters, blindspot monitoring

my current options are
Kia optima si
Ford mondeo trend/titanium
Hyundai i30 SR
(I would much appreciate if you comment why you voted that car)

I am leaning towards Kia optima as i found cars under 25k with 6 year warranty left.

But i need to find more options as my previous car purchase went terribly wrong by jumping into buying the first car we saw!

Please help me :)

      • Does jetta have these features? I couldnt find one with these features

    • Vrs is bit above the budget for me :(

    • Also no aeb and adaptive cruise control

    What is your annual salary

    • @Yttrium may i ask why you are instrested in that?

Probably trying to sell you a time share in a high yeild investment Mercedes Benz..

        • Woah… thank you for that great read. Makes me feel so good about myself.

lets say you earn 60k, thats 40k after tax.

You have no business spending 9 months of your working life ($30k), when you can get an equivalently functional car for $5k.

        • @Yttrium Please dont make assumptions on other peoples life/spending habbits.

          What is your annual salary

        • @Yttrium: Because asking that the first time worked so well, you thought you would run it out again…

  • Android auto doesn't go with wireless charging. You'll use 1 but not the other. Decide which you care about.

Have you bothered to sit in any cars? Drive them etc? Spec list is 1 thing, actual real world feel is another

What size car do you want? I30 isn't in the same size class as the other 2…

    • @spaceback I have test driven kia optima , i30 sr, golf.
I lean towards kia with the driving experience because of the quietness of the cabin. That said, i30 sr was also very nice being sportier. :)

I dnt care about the body type or size either.

I do understand that android auto doesnt work wireless (not yet, anyway), but i wont always need android auto or wireless charging. So i dont really care tbh. Just nice to haves. As long as it has some kind of navigation options

  • What's wrong with the trusted Corolla? Why isn't that included in the poll?

    • @whooah1979
Doesn't have any of the features i want.
And also dont like the interior :(

  • can recommend the mondeo have had multiple ones over the years as a company car.

apparently the engine in them is made by peugeot, i've had diesel ones and average about 1000kms per tank of fuel

    • Oh great. Thank you. I haven't driven a mondeo yet. Is the diesel refined? I would like a quiet cabin? If it is id love the fuel economy.. Even if i like it, do u think its worth getting a mondeo with only 2 or 1 year left on warranty or get a optima with 6 year warranty? For the same price?
It would be a mondeo trend and optima si.

      • You're looking at MD Mondeo, while zetec (described by myusername) is in MC model, I own MC Mondeo Zetec TDCI, and it is a nice car to drive, you still can hear diesel noise during acceleration, but it is not annoying, the car has enough grunt and very economical. In MD Mondeo the specs are better and the interior is much nicer, if you think more about warranty then definitely kia, if you want to get a better car (comfort, features and etc.) - then Mondeo. But this is purely my opinion.

I like how both of these cars look like, so I would suggest to drive both of them and make a decision on your own feeling, as at the end, you are going to drive that car and you should enjoy it! :)

        • Thank you @Ametric
          :)

        • @poorguy007: my pleasure

  • not sure what diesel refined is honestly sorry. the one i have at the moment is has the zetec engine in it turbo diesel.

have driven other diesel cars previously and this one doesn't sound like a diesel car and is actually quite quick off the mark

    • Intresting. I ll keep that in mind. :)
      Thanks for ur reply

  • Kia Optima is an excellent car, and great value. Obviously the balance of the factory warranty is important to you. With that in mind if you settle on a car, check with Kia as to when the warranty started. Don't rely on the date of first registration. Dealers often RDA cars that are unsold to achieve targets etc. The car could have been reported months before first registration and you will lose out on that portion of the warranty

    • Wow. Really intresting. Thanks for letting me know.

  • Out of the 3, I'd be going for the Kia Optima. Nicest interior, will be the most reliable considering its a traditional auto not a dual clutch system and it has the longest warranty. However, an alternative I'd be looking at (and not one that's usually considered) is a one year old Infiniti Q50. They retail at about 60k driveaway new, but depreciation is working well in your favour since they can be had now after one year for about $30k https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Infiniti-Q50-2016… So you're pretty much getting a brand new luxury vehicle, RWD with good driving dynamics, plenty of options, comfortable, reliable (MB engine, Nissan Trans) and easy to get parts for since its a Nissan. Plus since the initial 1st year depreciation hit of about 47% the depreciation over the next 2-3 years after purchasing stays mostly stagnant.

    • wow… that is nice car but it doesnt have AEB or adaptive cruise control. i would have jumped at it , if it had those features.

      • +1

Higher up Q50 models have those features but that puts it out of your price range by a few thousand unfortunately :( If its a deal breaker to have those options under $30k, then again, I would recommend the Kia Optima. You'll thank yourself later for buying a bigger car (than the i30) especially on the highway, its more practical and when time comes to sell you'll be glad you have the two years of extra warranty over the i30. I used to own a 2011 Kia Cerato SLi a few years ago and it was a fantastic car, I even looked at upgrading to an Optima since they gave me a loan car Optima and that thing was so nice to drive, even for a big FWD sedan, and it was fairly quiet too.

        • I am just worried that so many people choose i30 and mondeo over optima, not the way i felt when i drove all three of them.
i know it is my decision end of the day, but just bit confusing.
i am also looking at 8k car for my gf, thinking about cerato too , glad to know it is a great car

  • +1

I voted for the i30. I have a first generation i30 and have had trouble free ownership for the last 4 years. My mother has an i30, and several of my friends - none of whom i've heard complain about their i30. The only issue I have heard of is automatic gearboxes in first generation diesels can have shifting issues. But I dont think the SR comes in diesel, and you want a late model example… so you should be good to go.

  • Have you considered Nissan Qashqai? I have just bought a diesel one (picking it up this afternoon).

Based on your specs you’d probably be looking at top of the range Petrol Ti or diesel TL. Leather seats, sun roof, auto assist parking, navigation etc. there are plenty of Nissan ex executive models around Melbourne atm. Been driven for between 3000-8000km and only for 6-12months. And they knock a fair penny of the price of a new one.

The diesel does 4.9L per 100km with the 65L tank is an insane 1400km per tank.

Plenty around that 30k mark with under 10,000km on it and most of warranty. Can get down to about 25-27k if you up the km’s done

    • hi Chillybags ,
i like the looks of the Qashqai…
but it doesnt have AEB and adaptive cruise control.
also dont like the CVT :(

      • Yeh fair enough

Only had it for a week but it’s going well! I am very happy!

My back up option was the cx3 which has those features but it’s a lot smaller and generally a bit more expensive too - but if you are looking for a petrol version instead of the diesel you might find something in the cx3 which you like.
