Jobs Where You Can Make over 200K a Year?

Based on the findings from this thread - it is clear 100K is not as unattainable or difficult to achieve as previously thought.
Also, considering the cost of living/housing in Sydney & Melbourne, 100K doesn't actually get you much these days.
I believe 200K is the new 100K.

As AdiOZ asked before - I really am wondering what are these jobs?

    • Yes true stats are one thing - I was actually more interested to see how many ozbers are on 200k considering so many said they were on 100+. Plus its nice to hear from friends (yes you are my friends)

You can tell people on the internet you earn 300k a year, but it doesnt necessarily make it true.
Do you not think it's curious that 9/10 ozbargainers are earning 120K+, yet spend all their free time on a bargain website?

What are you talking about? Everything on the internet is true!

        • Do you not think it's curious that 9/10 ozbargainers are earning 120K+, yet spend all their free time on a bargain website?

I like to have enough money to both have a good lifestyle and also budget prudently. Ignoring the cost of items doesn't allow both. Thanks to the cost of real estate, I can't imagine there are that many people earning incomes with huge disposable cashflow. If you have a $300k household income in Sydney, that just means you have a mortgage in the east or north rather than west, the amount you can spend on a holiday, groceries etc. is much the same, maybe a bit easier.

And to put it another way, do you think it is surprising that people who have worked hard to maximise their incomes are also concerned about maximising their expenditure?

        • Just an FYI, Ruslan Kogan actually liked an Ozbargain deal (on Facebook, a deal on cheap economy flights). He's both a millionaire and a tightarse.

Though we're not sure if he has an Ozbargain account.

  • I don't agree 200k is the new 100k.

I'd say 150k is the new 100k in those generalisation terms.

According strictly to the ABS, $101,900 is technically the new $100,000 — relying solely on 12mo national inflation figures.

      • Pffft stats….

        ;)

200k is hard, 100k - 130k can be a 70-80k job where u are willing to work where others won't like mines etc..

You hit a ceiling when u go to salary , I was on Salary just over $100k you can never earn more unless a bonus which when they were paid were nothing ie: 1k or $700 then take tax out.. if you paid by the hour and get paid for every hour you do and can work some overtime or on call you can really add to your wage ..

but life isn't only about $$$ do what you like to do, live accordingly and be happy.

  • know a guy 15 years ago pulling 100k with a niche logistic position everyone looked up to him, wondering how much he's making now, if he keeps at it I guess might be around 250k but who knows, and the other guy who was running a small business in a niche area and doing very well pulling 300k to half mil (not mining and with minimal overhead), but he didn't have any sensible investments and instead blew the money with his lavish life style, when that area dries up or becomes oversaturated, he didn't have anything left, he got a good ride by the right time but he didn't chase up with any brighter ideas or long term vision so when outsource (and stronger competitors) kicked in he got kicked out good and back to square one (a normal day job), but nevertheless he had a good run what he was making years ago (around 10 years ago) is still a pipe dream to me.

200k Gross income is pretty high i'd say you wouldnt get many 'permeate full-time' 200k a year jobs - good on anyone who has one but unless you're a Senior Executive most people i know cap out around the 160k (thats withover time and with bonuses).

The only people i know making over 200k have there own business and took a fair amount of risk at some stage to get there they also work well over 40 hours a week.

I think you need to clarify 200k for full time hours because if you're happy to work 18 hours a day 7 days a week you can probably make 200k as a cleaner i think what you are asking what jobs pay $100 per hour

senior professionals (lawyers, accountants) can earn over $200k in the mid to big tier firms; partners can 3X or 4X that (or more if a star, but those are rare). Bankers/merchant bankers, actuaries, analysts and of course medical professionals are also in the same categories

senior professional consultants (engineers, IT etc) can earn $1000+ per day, thats over $200k in a year. Of course, some wont necessarily be working every single day of the year

Some of these people are working on massive projects or developments (billions of dollar infrastructure or acquisition projects), so $200k is a drop in the ocean to get the right person

That said, it really comes down to skills and the shortage of skills. You can be a lawyer without in demand skills or with skills that are pretty common place vs someone with skills that are in demand by the biggest companies on their most high profile/sensitive matters. Same situation as, say, a sports person - there are a lot of cricketers, there arent many that bowl at 150km/h. One of those groups gets paid a lot.

$200k isn’t even a lot of money these days. It’s strange to think a combined family income in excess of $400k feels poor.

How much you spend has a bigger impact than how much you make.

A lot of people driving around in new cars these days and going on holidays often. Don't think they are all earning the big bucks

  • I wrote this list for the $300k joke question, but it is true here too.
Partner in any reasonably large law firm, judge, medical specialist, prime minister/state premier/senior minister, CEO of any ASX listed company, heads of public service departments, plenty of real estate agents in Sydney/Melbourne, good salesperson in corporate IT, top exec headhunters, most investment bankers in a good year.
    These are all salary/bonus/commision roles.
Plenty of small business owners would reap this sort of income too.

  • Do IT contracting for about 190k odd a yr…

A GP prepared to work in the bush can do 300k easily.

But nearly all these high income jobs require high stress and crushing hours.

  • Whatever it is you have to build up to it - maybe 10 years of solid effort and experience… Unless graduate @ westpac.
