Planning to buy Redmi 4x. Found one in shopmonk, but confused on whether it is Chinese or international version.

It is the factory global/international rom. When you receive it the first thing to do is connect it to wifi and let it auto update to droid7 & latest xiaomi miui which can take 15-20 minutes. It will require a restart when finished.
The interface is perfect and contains no chinglish. Shopmonk also supply an aust charger as well as the us one included in the xiaomi sealed package.
Shopmonks product description detail is pathetic (eg: the 4X has a snapdragon processor not the MDTK in their listing).. but the product, price and delivery is first class.
So if I bought it right now it would come with a snapdragon processor?
The Chinese version doesn't work with app store, and changing the language doesn't change everything. You'll need to install international ROM.
Mi phones are harder to flash than most. You need to get permission from Xiaomi (takes anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks), then you need to wait 48 hours to actually be able to flash it.
Took me about 2 weeks in all, because the permission asking screws up easily, and asking more than once every couple days blocks you for 2 days from asking again.

I'm also thinking of buying this and I have a vaya sim and have no problems with it presently and I'm classed as a regional area (central coast). Will this xiaomi phone work ok for me?

Without Band 28 - 700Mhz, the phone won't work everywhere in 4G for Telstra, but should generally be okay in town areas near to a band 3 - 1800Mhz tower.
It does have Band 5 - 850Mhz which Vodafone mostly uses for it's 4G, but don't expect to get Vodafone in rural locations is my experience living in regional NSW.
The phone has all the 3G frequencies used by Aussie carriers.
