Bluetooth shoes, I don't remember seeing these in Back to the Future….

    • +48

Hijacking first comment for a quick review.

I've had a pair for about 6 months and have been pretty happy with them.

First off, as a 'dumb shoe', these are fantastic. They are probably a size smaller than advertised, so go half to a full size up when ordering.
The shoes are extremely comfortable. Most pronounced is how much the rear hugs your heal. The upper heal section is molded to come in around your heal. It gives a stupidly comfortable and secure feeling.

Shoe is very lightweight, but doesn't feel fragile. little things like double stitching over the big toe area makes it feel quite sturdy.
I find it is a little over cushioned on the inside of the arch of your foot. But most shoes feel like this to me, and if anything this is less irritable than my other shoes.
Sole is very comfortable. A little springy (but in a good way), grip has been great on a range of surfaces (for a sneaker anyway).
As a dumb shoe alone, I think it's more comfortable than most sneakers in the $100 to $200 range.

The (optional) smarts are there if you want it. It's matchbox (quarter thickness) sized removable insert that goes into the sole of one of the shoes.
It's a little more accurate than whatever wrist or phone based pedometer you are using atm.
It can also distinguish stairs and pace (run, quick walk, casual walk etc).
You'll need to use the bluetooth app to copy data to you phone (no idea how much data the shoes themselves store, before deleting old data).
Battery life is pretty average, so make sure you have a spare on hand!

TL;DR Good enough as a basic shoe to make this worthwhile. Up to you if you want to use the smart features or not.

Excellent review, my only worry is the size. as per your suggestion one size up should be right. if it is wrong i'm stuck with it :(. Size is suppose to be standard international!!

        • I am usually a US9, and that's what I got. It is a little tight to get on, and I'm close to maximum looseness with the laces. Big tow is getting close to the top of the shoe as well.

I should also point out that these don't feel like your normal shoe when putting them on. To get the heal snugness it's tight to get your foot in.
I have to undo laces and really loosen it all the way down at the moment. Really wish I'd gone up a size up where I could just undo the laces and loosen the top part.

        • @BluBoy:

What size (EU did you get)? There doesnt seem to be any US9 - closest is EU 43 which is 9.5

Did you go the EU42 or EU43?

        • @MorriJ: im usually a 9.5 or 10 (wide feet) which is eu43 i believe. i ended up getting the US10- or size 44 for these xiaomi

keep in mind i have wide feet and they ended up being perfect

        • @furythree: Thanks, perfect. I ended up using my GB rewards to get it down to near the same price as the 43s. I went the 44s, glad I did now. Cheers.

        • "Size is suppose to be standard international!!"

Where do you get that from? Have you ever bought shoes? For each brand the sizing is different and sometimes even within the same brand sizes are not consistent.
That would be too easy and logical.

I used to work in a shoe shop (including medical grade and orthopaedic) footwear and sometimes the size would vary by three sizes (for example, sandal size in one brand would be 10 and normal shoe size in another brand would be 7 - for the same person and foot.).

Which is why there is always some inherent risk in buying shoes online unless you have tried them on before or already have a well-fitting pair. Or you know the exact size in centimetres and then can compare that in relation to the brand you intend to buy.

        • @Lysander: thats why i went off measurements and not sizes

      • Do they provide some form of water resistance?

        • Not really.

It is a mesh upper. Makes it light and airy, but also not very waterproof.
The sole is a little thicker than a normal sole (I think), so the extra height might be slightly better with puddles I guess.

      • +3

Man I don't even want these shoes but that review was sweet. Thanks

      • +2

I can confirm these shoes are really as good as reviewed by bluboy. Only negative I can give is they are not watertight. Puddles and spills will leave your socks wet!

        • not hiking shoes, doubt they're running shoes even. Same can be said about any X brand casual/walking shoes.

      • Not rechargeable? Deal breaker for me. I'll stick to my mi band 2

  • +1

I don't get what the smart chip does… Am I missing something? (Are my feet gonna get taken over by hackers? And can I run fanghack on them? ;))

    • Just measures your steps and connects with the app

      • So no different from a Mi Band … other than doing a lot less … and not being rechargeable …

        • +1

Yea. Honestly I just want the shoes. Not interested in the tracker. They look like a good replacement for my nike free

        • +2

          @tomkun01: i own these shoes

have yet to bother connecting the chip

but these shoes are COMFY AS HELL!!!

        • @furythree: Do you agree with the need to order one size up?

        • +1

@EightImmortals: yes but only because the measurements are off. Just make sure the sizing matches what you usually get

I normally get US10 and i ordered 11 and the fit was amazing
i have wide feet and these were comfy as hell

        • @furythree: Thanks for that, was kind of weird though cos if I went by their size my 9.5" foot would have me in a US size 6.5! I'm usually a US 9 so I went a bit bigger than that.

        • @EightImmortals: i think the site shows you the measurements comapred to US/UK (if not check the official xiaomi site or other sites)
          EDIT

ACTUALLY, i just checked, i have a US10 - size 44. so looks like i confused it with a different shoe

        • @EightImmortals: yay, mine just turned up, I ordered 1/2 size larger and seem pretty comfortable.

    • +6

Wrap the shoes in tin foil to prevent hackers. Also, don't forget to wear your tin foil hat.

  • +29

    band 28?

    • +18

No band 28 but it'll send your foot data to the Chinese government.

      • +19

If only it would send my foot odor to some of my work colleagues

        • +1

You need to take off your shoes at work, don’t need new pair for that

        • @Jimmy007: i was hoping it would go over the network by IP address

        • +9

          @Jackson: You wouldn't download a car …

      • Sending foot data or foot smell?

      • It maps Australia so the Chinese military knows the logistical concerns when it invades

          Leave that to me 😀

    • +19

I for one welcome our new cheap Chinese electronic overload
all hail Xiaomi! Come on everyone, take the great leap forward! Join the cultural revolution! What could go wrong?

      • +4

The cultural revolution was neither cultural nor revolutionary. Discuss.

        • +2

Looks like we have a humanities student in our midst.

        • +3

I was of the view that mainland Chinese people are sort of brainwashed or something and how could they not realise how superior democracy was and how amazing am I for being so enlighteneed but then I realised that they think it works better than democracy.

          I can't fault that view.

        • @UponOccasion: sighs… What gave it away? Now I'm going to have to vanish in a puff of deconstruction

        • because there were no Xiaomi products back then?

        • @supabrudda: the use of no and back then implies a case of capital absolutism… Crap… I'm doing it again…

      • +1

With these you can quantify how "Great" that Leap was, Revolutionary!

    • +6

      MiBargain

    • +1

Hopefully they release a coupon to get it for $0.01

    • +4

I for one welcome our Xiaomi overlords

  • +3

We've come full circle to the original Nike+ that was a bluetooth dongle that slipped into your shoe

  • +1

They make shoes too? Come off it.

    • +1

      They also produce films.

    L

    • +6

For those like me who had no idea what L means:

In the sneaker community, 'L' means 'Loss' as opposed to 'Win' (denoted by W) and in most sneaker contexts relates to the attractiveness where W is attractive and L being unattractive.

      • +2

In other contexts, it can also mean loss in the situation where you were not able to purchase a sneaker as soon as it is released due to high demand

      • +5

        the sneaker community

      • +7

        Theres a sneaker community ?

        • +3

oh yeah, but you don't hear much about them because they primarily use the sneaker-net for information dissemination.

        • +2

          @lynxmonkey: because they're so sneakerly?

  • does this work well on stairs?

Are these certified for use in Australia? If my house burns down in a fire, what will happen if these shoes are found in my house?

    • +2

Can’t find shoes in burnt house. Make sure not to call fire fighters soon

    • +6

Only if placed in Samsung washing machine. May void warranty of both too, subject to Australian consumer protection

    • +1

      The product description says:
      Product Details = "… The intelligent chip is powered by 1 x CR2032 battery ( built-in )"

I wouldn't worry about fire. Its powered by a 3 Volt button cell battery. The most dangerous thing you could do would be eating the shoes.

One pair of shoes is 2x button batteries. You'd have to go for broke. Not sure what the news headline would read.

      • +3

You only get one sensor, so the risk is halved. :)

You can chose which foot it goes In, so that's great if you've got one leg.

  • +9

This is a step too far.

  • any firmware patch that doesn't go to china? :D

  • +9

    What will happen if bootloop.

To the person below me, no I haven't bought a pair.

        • To the person above.. I did not ask you anything..

To the person below .. Jealous?

      • Cannot stop until you die.

  • People above me, have any of you bought a pair or not?

    • +36

I'm below you, so can't comment.

    • I have, they're fairly comfortable and good for the price. These are more accurate for steps than the mi band and having both is a bit redundant. Size wise I wear a Nike 12 and I bought this in a 12 and its a good fit.

  • -2

Put in op the one size it's available in… Save some time!

    • ? All sizes seemed to be available on listing

      • My bad it is more than one - up to 43 available.
        Just tried 44 - 46!

  • Wow, talk about the answer to the question no one asked. Seems like you can re-invent any product these days if you put the word "smart" in front of it.

    • +12

      SmartMrZ

    • Lord forbid they put an i in front of it!

      • People asked for smart condom.

        • i gather when u mention "people", condom and smart…

It rings a couple of bells…

          monty.melb

        • In that case the i would be behind it.

        • @stonkered:

          …it could be behind you

    • Or gaming.

      Gaming shoes.

"The module can run for up 60 days on a standard coin battery"

So we need to buy a lot of coin battery.

    • -1

      It's rechargeable

      • Where did you read that?

        • Thought I edited that post to correct myself… no it's not rechargeable :(

    • Are there eneloops in that size?
