Hi All
My old mans laptop just died due and is need of replacement. He only really has the requirement that it has a 17" screen, webcam and costs under $2000 AUD. Anything else would be standard I'm sure like wifi (AC might be nice) etc.
Nice to haves SSD and weight but he would give preference to battery life over weight
Price is a soft limit but for his usage he doesn't need anything that expensive I wouldn't think. He doesn't place any high end games or anything like that
I'm doing my own research but if anyone can point me at something that would be great

None of the above have SSD's but their specifications are sufficient for general usage. The resolution is also under standard — only 1600 x 900 pixels.
SSD upgrades can be performed yourself, and is recommended since most manufacturers would charge a premium for an inclusion of an SSD. Crucial MX300 275GB or 525GB would be an example.
If you're looking for something more solidly built, look for the HP Probook 470 G4 or the 470 G5 which can be equipped with the following specs:
i5-7200U 7th gen CPU (dual cores)
or i7-8550U 8th gen CPU (quad cores)
17.3 FHD LED
8GB DDR4 or 16GB DDR4
1TB HDD or 256GB SSD
NVIDIA 930MX (think there could be a MX150 model)

double check the specs before purchasing. Some of them have HDD, some SSD's
