Windscreen Wiper Rubber Seal Broke

Hi all

Sorry for the stupid question but I've never been in this situation before and don't know how to fix it. All the older folk are probably gonna shake their head at this.

Brace yourselves.

My old '96 Camry's Windscreen Wiper Rubber part has ripped off the actual metal frame. So it doesn't wipe the windscreen.

Where is the cheapest place to get a new one? Can I install it myself? Do I need tools? Are there different models or sizes?

I need it asap because it's raining but my wipers don't work.

Many thanks brethren

Buy at an automotive spares shop.. new wiper blades.. they will need to know the year and car make model..
Youtube has intructions for everything… i will search how to replace wiper blades for you… one mo… :-)
    … here ya go.. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+replace+…

The spares shop (supercheap auto, and others) will install them for you also for a few $.

    • Yep SCA has most types, they have a book hanging nearby that you look up your make and model of your car to identify which ones to buy.

Some you can replace tool less, some you need tools like pliers and a Stanley knife or similar.

    • A car that old will have either wide or narrow blades, they aren't specific to model, but it helps to be able to look up the model. Taking the old one into the shop might shortcut looking up the model number if you can work out how to get them off (by looking at online video methods)

Learn how to change them, it's easy and will mean that if your wipers start to lose efficiency you can easily install replacements next time.

  • It's hard to understand without a photo, but if the rubber isn't damaged and the parallel metal wires aren't badly bent you can just re-insert them (since you have access to the internet you can google it but in an emergency you can try copying the good side).

I never appreciated how important wipers are until mine fell apart in torrential rain. The visibility was near zero.

    • If the wipers are over about 4years it's probably time for new ones.

  • if you diy, double and triple check. if you havnt put the wiper on properly you will scratch the carp out of your windscreen.

  • Super Cheap Auto will fit some items (for a price) for you. Wiper blades would be one of these things.

  • Anyone able to suggest how much I will have to folk out?

  • Just drive in to your local Supercheap Auto etc. and ask them to replace the wiper blades for you. I paid $16 fitted at Sprint Auto a couple of months ago.

Don't use your wipers until you get them replaced as you'll scratch the windscreen.
