Having Trouble with My AliExpress Dispute

Hello.

I recently bought a 64GB USB Flash Drive for $18 from AliExpress.
I bought it because I liked the design.
When I received the item, turns out it has an ugly text logo some of the cheap USB Flash Drives seem to have. The pictures on the product page show no logo at all and there was nothing about logo in the description.

The seller has deleted the product page a few days ago.

Now I went through the dispute and AliExpress has claimed that the item was indeed not as described and given me an option to get a full refund.
However, the seller still rejects to give me a full refund and insists they will only give me 50% of it back since the item still works and that extra printed text doesn't affect performance.

So I just wanted to ask is this normal? What do I do next? Can I escalate this further or do I suck it up and accept the 50% proposal?

I still feel stupid - so what if my USB has penises engraved with a laser but the seller will claim it is perfectly fine because it doesn't affect performance? Makes no sense.

You can escalate the case to let AliExpress make the decision. It will take a while but they will side with you if what you mentioned regarding AliExpress acknowledging the item is not as described is true. You might need to send the item back though.
What nonsense, it's like you bought a Toyota but they gave you a Kia instead - with dealer claiming both cars are drive-able.

you bought subaru brz, but given toyota 86

    • Wait on Aliexpress. They like you (Brokenglish) said will often side with the buyer. Also the seller has agreed to 50% off so Aliexpress at the worst will give you that, so there is nothing lost by waiting.

If asked to send it back say yes, but the seller must bear the cost.

I did this once and when the seller understood the cost of shipping it back was more than the cost of the item they just agreed to refund me the total amount.

  • Sometimes you cant change the world… fight all you like and you may get your $18 or you may end up with 0.
I would take the $9 offered and then sell it for $9 to make up your outlay.
To most people the looks of a usb drive is not important, functionality is, so I would not worry about it for the price involved.
I would test it though to see if it is a genuine 64GB.

  • What scum of the earth would do such a thing. I mean, who would want foreign markings on a ubs drive.

I am not suggesting what has occurred with your purchase/sale is fair or ethical, but - lets say you get 50% or $9 back.

You have a somewhat ugly USB drive which cost $9 delivered.

This is less than the cost of a large big mac meal.

Do you regret eating that last big mac meal and post about it on a forum because the fries were slightly cold and they put too much ice in the drink?

  • As brokenglish has suggested, escalate it up to Aliexpress and wait. If they still don't offer a full refund, speak to your bank and tell them the item was not as described and the vendor will not accept a return or offer a refund.
I've had to do the same thing with a replacement LCD which was missing part of the notification light (it still worked but looked terrible). They offered 30% back because the thing was still functional, but I wanted a full refund as I didn't want my phone to look like rubbish. I escalated to AliExpress with photos and they sided with the seller, so I escalated it to 28 Degrees as a 'Not as described'. 2 weeks later I had a full refund.

  • Ali's pretty good with buyer complaints I've never lost a case. Albeit all my cases were non delivery of goods after protection period was nearly over.
Except one where a screen replacement kept glitch ing. Thought it be hard to prove but uploaded a video and Ali sided with me.

  • Their dispute process could be good or bad, depending on the staff who process it, as like KBZ said I have made 500+ purchases and made several disputes with no issues until the latest one, which has left me thinking about stopping buying from them altogether with the treatment I have had using their customer support system. If you are lucky the dispute will be accepted by aliexpress and stop there. I had ordered two items in one order and the seller only put one in the package. I contacted the seller and they said the other item is still coming. After a week the seller and shop were gone. I opened a dispute on the missing item while I still had buyer protection on and Aliexpress rejected it saying that the package was delivered which I had said in the dispute but one item was missing in the package and that was the item I opened a dispute on. I got proof from Auspost on the weight of the package and got the weight of the product from another order I had made (I ordered that item twice) and put an appeal in showing the weights matched and that there was an item missing. The appeal was also rejected saying that the package was delivered. I tried to use their customer support and that is a joke, told multiple times that they will log an appeal or a courtesy request only to be told by the next person that they could not see that against the order in question and have to go through the process again. Fyi don't bother to email them as their mail box is full :P. A few times I had gotten an email from them about the issue and tried to respond and got a message back that the mailbox was full, this was on an email they wanted the seller to respond too in regards to this issue, which they couldn't as it was full. So good luck. :)
