Hope they don't have a repeat of the iPad issue like last time when I posted the iPad deal

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not sure if I can afford another Macbook when I decide to upgrade. And I don't really want to go back to Windows based laptop.

If you can get them at a discounted price like this then they start becoming more affordable. I only just got a 13" MBP last week when JB had 10% off, got a 5% price beat at OW to save a bit more. I chose the non-touchbar model because I didn't see the value of it yet. This'll be my first MBP so I'm hoping to get some good life out of it.

    • And I’m stuck with my 2012 model. I can even live with the touchbar, but the keyboard on the new MacBooks is just atrocious. Don’t get the point of shaving of a few mm of thickness if you have to live with a bad keyboard.

Same here holding onto to my 2012 15" MBP, have upgraded to SSD and 16GB memory myself, it runs like a dream. Connected to 3 external monitors, a 30" (via thunderbolt) and 2 x 23" using a DELL USB 3 DisplayLink based dock.

I got used to the new keyboard very quickly and felt weird when using the older MBP. The new keybard is thinner but is more tactile so there's better feedback when typing fast.

        • I actually never got the hang of it. Granted I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but during my multiple 5 minute hands-on with both the 13 and 15" models, I just didn't like the feel of it. Unfortunately, I don't think Apple will ever go back to the old keyboard, so its just a matter of time before I'm forced to get one.

@Karupan: The new keyboard is totally different but defiantly far superior after a couple uses. As previously mentioned, Going back to the old macbook keyboard makes it seem your typing on a sponge.

          @dylanando:

          Agreed.

I was in the same position but with a 13” 2009 model pro. Finally bit the bullet a month ago and bought the 2016 13” non touchbar pro for $1699 on clearance at officeworks and then got TRS discount. Think the deal is still available if you’re interested

      • +1

I never really claimed >$1000 item on TRS. Do they not check you on your return?

        • +1

I doubt anyone ever does but to play it safe I ticked the box on the customs declaration, and the interaction I had with customs went something like this:
          Customs: what have you got?
Me: Laltop I claimed on TRS
          Customs: What’s it worth?
          Me: About $1500
          Customs: You’ll be right

Then was directed to the nothing declare / walked straight out

        • @opilot87: Damn. You got a nice custom officer. I'll try it and hope for the best

@John: Same thing happened to me - with two (two travellers). They said 'don't worry - it's depreciated'.

A familiar story from me too - I'm still on my mid-2010 MBP 17-inch!!
It's kept up well, with an SSD upgrade (and 2TB in the optical bay) a few years ago. I'm kind of amazed that I haven't felt the need to prioritise an upgrade yet. I just love the larger screen on the 17 inch.
Having said that, the weight does get to me sometimes. Perhaps something new that is "slim and light" will be what tips me over the edge eventually.

Same, I'm on a 2012 13" with a 23" monitor. 16gb ram and ssd - it runs amazingly well! When it does die I will switch to a ThinkPad and install ubuntu or a derivative of.

  • Tried to use the APPLE10 code and it says it's a duplicate promo code and APPLE50 doesn't reduce price by $50.

    • Sorry I didn't try those codes myself. Have you already used the APPLE10 code recently?

      • No I've never shopped at TGG before. But it should work considering it's showing these 2 promo codes on their website as well so it's definitely not a targeted one.

Looking to get the Macbook Pro 15" does anyone ever discount more than 10%?

    • Au stock, go to Officework and request price beat. Imported stock eBay sales. I bought a 15inch one around $2600 with cash back. Still a lot cheaper even if you add apple care.

  • -5

I tried to buy a Macbook and it said only available for pickup, well I tried most every location near Sydney and no stock. They really need a better stock checker system

    • Price match in an Apple store. That's what I did last time TGC had this offer (excluding the $50).

      • +13

Tip for price matching at Apple - don’t go in asking for a price match. Wait till you’ve gone through the whole 20 minute “how do you use your computer” Apple hipster sales experience, let them get excited about the sale, then do the price match as you get out your card to pay. Too many times I’ve been bluntly told ‘No’ to price match when that’s the first thing I ask.

        • Awesome tip, thanks muncan.

        • +1

          My experience was:
Apple: Hi can I help you.
Me: Hopefully, can you price match TGC?
Apple: Probably, is it in store.
Me: Yes, it's on their website as in store too.
          he looks
Apple: Looks fine, I'll get my manager's approval.
Apple: How are you paying to day.

In and out of the store in 5 minutes. No need to jerk anyone around.

        • @PainToad: same here

  • Do they sell Apple Watch at officeworks?

    • It's not on their web site so I don't think so.

  • Same boat, 2011mbp died on me, probably small problem….

    I don't want to spent 2k+ for a 256gb storage.and still use ddr3 in 2017…

    • +1

It's a Mac, not a number-crunching or gaming rig, DDR3 won't matter for 99% of what you'll use it for. Good to go! :)

      • +1

        so does ddr2.

    • My 2013 MacBook Pro 13" came with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. The ridiculously overpriced 2017 MacBook Pro 13" Touchbar models still have one with the same 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Sigh.

      • i wish S.J is still here.

  • +1

yup same. we are still using a 15" Macbook Pro and a 13" Macbook Pro from 2011. what is the best thing we can upgrade without buying a new mac? ram?

    • I went from a Macbook Pro from 2011 to a 2017, trust me the difference is amazing.

  • For those whose codes aren't working: it excludes the products that are "as advertised" (ie excludes about 75% of the products on their page)

  • TGG, office works and JB don't have any stock of iMac 27" 5k 3.4ghz 8gb whatsoever on Gold Coast… Or Australia-wide it seems atm. However DOMAYNE @Bundall had a few 3 or 4 in stock and we paid $2421 this evening, and even held store open 45 minutes after their 5:30 close, so we could get there. My wife is very happy replacing her '09 iMac with this! And Domaynes service was exceptional. Good luck.
