Plot: so long as you already own them in your Steam library.

Free steam game if you have already got it. It's like a free ride when you've already paid! (Isn't that ironic?)

    • +7

No, it's just unfortunate Alanis! Arrrghhhh!

    • +6

No, other way around. It's a free GoG game if you already have it on steam.

GoG is good for multiplayer. Steam doesn't let you run a game on two systems at once if both are logged into the same account. Even if both of those are owned by you.

I tried running a game not for multiplayer but just to compare how it looks on two different screens (one a tablet) but Steam would not allow both to run at the same time. I can stream to the other one though.

      GoG's appeal is DRM free.

    • +1

Don't ya think? A little too ironic.

  • +7

Tbh people should buy/play these anyway if they are a fan of original diablo

    • It's not free if you don't already have it. Which means you need to have bought it before or will buy it now.

  • +1

Can someone please explain how this is a deal?

    • +5

If you own the game on Steam, you can get it for free on GOG, a DRM free platform that doesn't require an always online connection to play games. Multiplayer is still available through GOG's client if you're online and logged in.

      • -5

So it's as much a deal as getting a new ice cream because the owner dropped yours on the floor is a deal.

        • No, it's more like being given an android phone because you already own an iphone. Sure, you don't need to use both. But one gives you more freedom than the other.

        • @3 Hyenas: Yes. That makes no sense either. It's like giving someone a lift to the shops, then taking them back home and doing it again because the first time you drove too slow.

    • +3

Your steam account could get hacked/locked/deleted at any time and everything you own in Steam would be gone. GOG allows you to download the installer and run it without any sort of DRM.

It's like getting a BD copy of a movie you've already seen on DVD.

      • What if your GOG account gets hacked and you don't have the game downloaded?

    • +3

As Steam gets less competitive I'd like more options however with most games under steam they have me a little locked in. This gives me more options for 0 cost (this isn't the first time GOG has help me free games from steam legally).

    • Why cant people accept some things are a deal to some and not to others, and unless you got a valid review of the product, there isnt much reason to state you don't find the value. The votes are pretty clear, a majority of Ozb members appreciate the information, so try and save the mods some time for chastising me when I swear at petty people.

Never hurts to have a DRM free copy available on another digital platform.

  • +3

I came to get a free torch. Oh shucks :(

    • +2

The torch light is free, so long as you already own the torch… aaand some batteries…

  • +4

Just a clarification about the deal - the games themselves are both completely DRM free already and can be played as a stand-alone game via the original game clients. You could buy the games from the dev's themselves, or via Steam. If you purchased through the dev's, you got a free steam key for the game, too.

This deal simply allows you to install and play them for free on the DRM-free GOG gaming platform, if you own the game via buying it through the Steam Games platform, or have the game registered in your Steam library via the key the dev's gave out at purchase.

The main advantages of having the game on GOG is that their platform is DRM-free and you don't have to put up with Steam's god-awefull multiple gig sized game updates they push for every tiny 50meg patch that comes out.

If it is on Steam it is NOT DRM free. Having to use the game clients means it is NOT DRM free. So, I am not sure what you want to say or what you are actually saying in your first paragraph. Pretty confusing.

With GOG they are DRM free which measn NO game client is necessary.

      • +1

You don't seem to understand. Neither Torchlight 1 or 2 are Steam games. The primary way of purchasing them is via the developer and you play the game through the game's main client. The main client is DRM-Free, hence my comment that the games are already DRM free. The only version of the game that has DRM, is the version you buy and install/play through Steam.

Much in the same way that Path of Exile is a stand-alone game and it's primary source of purchase and play is from the GGG developers and their game client. There is however a relatively small percentage of the game base though that have purchased and play the game through the Steam platform. Path of Exile does not have Steam DRM on it unless installed and played through the Steam platform. In the exact same way that TL1&2 don't have Steam DRM on them normally, unless played through the Steam platform.

      • +4

Incorrect. There are plenty of DRM free games on Steam.
        Source: http://steam.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games

Whether DRM is applied is totally up to the Developer/Publisher who sell the games on the Steam platform.

        • Edit.

        • @infinite:
Was replying to Lysander regarding his comment "If it is on Steam it is NOT DRM free" which is patently false. Torchlight 1 & 2 on Steam are NOT DRM-free unfortunately.

        • @Cobalt_:

I looked at some of those games. Some only run after you rename or delete Steam.api. Or they do not have full functionality. To me that indicates that they are still DRM although they can be made to run without it with workarounds.
Truly DRM-free is if you buy the game (from developers, GOG), get a file which you can put on a usb stick etc. and then just click on it (without doing anything else)in their intended environment and then the game installs, and runs normally.
Having to fiddle around, replace files, move things to other directories are not signs of DRM-free in my opinion.
And, yes while some games on Steam can be started without the client I am certain Steam gets some benefit as data feedback etc. out of it as otherwise it would make no sense for them to spend resources and hosting space to have them on their service if they get nothing out of it. After all, Steam is a company and not a charity unfortunately.

Played the crap out of Torchlight II (got all the achievements). Really good Diablo clone. Nice, clean and crisp graphics.

TL2 took the majority of D3's user base after their disastrous launch and those that didn't move on to TL2, left for POE. It's not difficult to see why everyone fled for TL2 either, because they absolutely nailed what a faster paced cartoon version of DL2 should have been in comparison to D3 & they did it for a full RRP of $20 at launch. They then upped the stakes and made the game fully moddable, with one of the best Mod SDK's & creation pack's I've ever seen for a game. The dev's updated and supported the game for years too. Much of the TL2 community have graduated on to POE & Grim Dawn now, but i still go back and play TL2 every now and again (Can't say the same for D3) and would happily play the shit out of Torchlight 3 if it ever get's made.

    • Its up there with Kingdoms of Amular for most under-rated game award i think.

    • I hated d3… took me 55 minutes to finish the game on xbox…

jk. (about the hate, not the conquest) it was ok. but the full retard mode specs and Rmah is what I avidly avoided on pc for years.

TL2 was much more fun, head mynpost below :)

      • They removed the RMAH a very very long time ago and D3 became a much better game for it, and became quite exceptional with the expansion.

  • I thought it's a free game…ah well… move on…

    • Username checks out

      • +1

        why?

        • +1

A bit of a stretch. Was more because you might not know why you are being negged. Unless this is your idea of sarcasm it seems you missed what the deal was actually for.

        • +1

@spillmill: I thought I was being neg'd because I asked for it lol

  • +2

    Misleading as heck title…

  • If people need items for their characters, I enchanted level 100 set and weapons for each of the 4 classes, and daisy chained it down the leveling set pieces to normals, so that Level 1 characters can equip it by swapping items until wearing best in slot level 100+. non hacked, so your characters don't get flagged, and for hardcore mode.

can't remember the name of the torchlight 2 community site, but Google

torchlight 2 unakron level 1(00) legendary

    edit: found the site
    https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http…

go the zerker or mage, I added my main weapons, they were my main 2 classes, so both sets are OP compared to the other 2

  • That didn't work for me :(

I have Torchlight on Steam, I connected the accounts but got "NO ELIGIBLE GAMES FOUND".

    • +1

Because it is over. Those things are only temporary/time-limited.

    • Sorry, hope this helps.
