Ah, the good ol' sig figs… haven't seem them in a while!

  • do they have dimmable led lights?

    • +3

Don't think Coles carries any dimmable LED.

ALDI have them as a Special Buy sometimes and places like Bunnings or a dedicated lighting store will have them.

Keep in mind you need an LED or universal dimmer and an incandescent dimmer will not work, even then it can be hit or miss.

And in some areas the off peak ripple will give you a disco effect.

        • +1

Thanks for that. I have now lost 30 minutes reading about off-peak ripple - and I don't even have dimmable lights.

      • I think I have bought dimmable LED from Coles.

I have a dimmable LED in a incandescent dimmer and it buzzes like crazy.

        • You are not alone. Led dimming is a topic in itself.

In your case I suspect that the minimum load of the dimmer might be an issue.

Do you ever get flickering of this light at regular times each day?

Isn't Mirabella kind of low quality?

    • +1

I wouldn't say low, but average

    • I brought one from coles. Last 2 days started blinking. Spend extra money and stick with philips.

      • return it for a refund!

I've noticed a lot of major retailers are only stocking this brand now and have dumped the Philips range. These are certainly a low quality bulb and I'd imagine have higher profit margins. I've been going out of my way to avoid buying this brand.

I've stuck with Phillips and osram because they have a good lumen/watt rating. Good brightness 2ith better power consumption than a lot of the cheaper brands.

    • Where do you buy them from? And are they under $20 per globe?

      • +1

Bunnings. They have 4 packs of osram 6.8w LED for $14.95

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/osram-6-8w-led-warm-white-a-shap…

They have them in daylight and warm white, they also have multi packs of 9.5w Phillips globes for similar prices.

        • Ah yes they have plenty of the type with multiple SMD LEDs that shine in one direction, I have bought several myself although not for my own house.

For some reason I was thinking of the more "exotic" Philips and Osram globes that one might see on sites like Amazon.

A bunch of oyster edison screw lamps were installed in the house I live in, so LED types that emit light sideways work better with those (although with some foil and sticky tape, sideways directional LED globes can be made to shine their light more downward).

I believe I've seen Philips LED filament globes in Bunnings but never on special. Mirabella seems to be the only "brand name" filament globes being discounted.

  • Dammit no Par38 globes available

    • +1

Check ALDI, they had some at their last Special Buys.

  • I will not buy mirabella.

  • Yeah I agree with everyone else in this thread about mirabella
Their light bulbs consistently last less than a year and in always having to change them.
I pay the 2 dollars or so more to get Phillips or osram from bunnings. And those bulbs last for so much longer

  • Mirabella's filament globes are good (better than Aldi's), with no flicker and good colour rendition.

I got two of the vintage globes, in BC and ES, it makes a good bedside table lamp globe but I returned the ES as it was too big to fit in ES fittings in the house I live in. And not a good globe for general lighting due to the 1800k tint mismatching with 3000K globes. I have a "real" incandescent 25W filament globe and the LED version is not too far off in lumens/tint.

The 2W filament globe is good, no flicker and comparable colour rendition to their other globes as far as I can tell.
