useful information: What synergy actually is…

"Share one mouse and keyboard between multiple computers:
Synergy combines your desktop devices together in to one cohesive experience. It's software for sharing your mouse and keyboard between multiple computers on your desk. It works on Windows, macOS and Linux."

    • Thanks, I've added that in.

  • Used to be free with just no support… I don’t have time to check but that may still be the case…

Why is this different to RDP? I have a headless server I log into, why would this be better? Can I use it on a laptop and log into and control two win 10 pro devices instead of rdp'ing in?

yes (not headless). People don't like reading words. Here is a video : https://youtu.be/vJlUiQZ84Uw?t=8

This will allow you to use one keyboard/mouse to control two computers as if the second computer was simply a second monitor attached to your main computer… if that makes sense! You will need a second monitor connected to the second computer of course, unlike RDP.

If you only need Windows support, also check out Mouse Without Borders.

    • This isn't a replacement for RDP; if it's a headless server, then you'll still need to RDP to it. This is about controlling 'headed' machines with the one keyboard & mouse. Ie, I have two computers, each with their own monitors, and rather than RDPing to control from the one computer, I just drag my mouse to the other computer's screen as though they were both connected to the same PC.

    • RDP uses a separate virtual session - not the "master" session (0) that runs on the main screen. It technically doesn't remote the main session like this app.

This is more for multiple computers running simultaneously on different screens.
Synergy allows all these computers to act as one extended display making it easier and less time consuming to switch between computers.

Edit: this was supposed to be a reply to the above poster

    • That only works for people with multiple Windows machines. While Synergy is for different type of consumers. For example, someone can have one Windows machine at client site, and one Macbook pro company gave to he/she.

        • Good find. Still has some limitations then you need to buy the full version. I can't use this for free as I have a desktop with two screens I want to link with my laptop. It has a limit of 2 computers and 1 screen each, and just because I need more then that I'd have to go PRO for $49USD.

    • Mouse without Borders is great - except it atrocious on software firewalls and does not always connect properly. But free is free..

    • challenge yourself in starcraft on two systems and screens

    What does 2 do that 1 doesn't?

    • Good question, I tried to find some info on this and haven't as its still in beta.
Anyone can shed any light on this?

But the price is a good saving, even if its for v1 if you go according to their prices on the website for someone that needs the software.
Funnily enough I am using the software downloaded from their website and it does say (unregistered) as I haven't made a purchase yet, but it works perfectly still after many months?

    • I found it pretty laggy for v1

    • I've been using v1 basic and seems ok.
I had a read and guessing the description they are giving is for v2 pro or whatever they call it.
For the sake of $6.43, might just get it and see how I go.

    • Improve stability is one of the stated goals. I hope/recall they might be looking at better Linux presence, including encryption

  • Tempted just because of the price, but as posted above, Mouse without Borders works great for me across multiple Windows PCs at work, for free.

  • I use Synergy daily, and bought it years ago. They sent me an early access invite a couple of weeks ago for US$15, so this deal here is a real bargain by comparison.

I don't know what the pricing will be for paid purchasers, so I've sent them an email. If they don't respond in time, I might just jump on this anyway.

Though, this is starting to smell a little desperate - are they running out of cash that they have to offer this early access?

I have to say, paypal payment seems dodgy. I bought it, it requested future payment access in paypal, which I assume allows them to make future paypal charges to my account. I've gone in and cancelled this in paypal tools.

"You've authorised use of your PayPal account for future payments to Symless Limited."

Why they would request this and not just a regular paypal transaction seems a little odd.

    • Good spot, I've now disabled this after paying for it.

    • Thank you, I've cancelled this shortly after paying.

I found inputdirector to be much better than Synergy - only works on windows though.

  • Bargin!

Soo… this is still working hey, even though the countdown timer says -9 hours… :P

    • It looks like this was meant to be a unique url/code for one user. I just recieved an email giving me 24 hours to update to Syn 2 with the same link but a diff code on the end (current Pro user). So I guess they are sending it out in batches. If you try to make up a code they price changes to the none pro update fee of $19.
