Simple Lighting Advice for Bench under Cabinet

We have a bench which we use as a bar. It is about 1m long and half that in depth. Above this is the cabinet, 2 shelves, where the glasses are stored.

We would like the bench illuminated. Possibly something in the cabinet too but not essential.

Now, there is a power point at the back of the bench on the wall. It also has a switch to turn on a little globe recessed into the bottom of the cabinet. But it is too dull and the switch too far in making it difficult to constantly reach in there to turn the light on.

Would like some advice on the options here. Possibly a LED lighting strip or similar to make things brighter and easier.

Cheers

  • These work great:

If you need it longer you can buy more and they attach to the end so only one power point required.

I stuck them up using Bluetak, it falls down sometimes but mostly does the job.

    • Thanks for linking the product. Looks good as long as the switch can be positioned somewhere out of the way. These bright enough?

  • LED strip from jaycar or ebay should do the trick

  • +1

Lots of cheapo RGB LED strips available, eg http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Waterproof-300-LEDS-RGB-5M-3528-S…

    $10-20 easy enough for 3-5m

Upshot is you should be able to do both the bench and cupboards on the same strip (you can cut strips and connect with simple wires) and choose the colour too.

    • I guess something like this could be connected to the socket where the small globe currently resides.

      • Basically they run off 12v, so I guess in theory it would work. Usually you get a power block and use that from 240v, but an existing light socket sounds tractable. As you will see from the second site, they get used for loads of different things, they are fairly simple to sort out.

      • You can use any old USB wall adapter. I have the same kit plugged into my desktop to light up behind my screens.
