Good deal, I need port out & in

  • Is there anyone better out of AGL and Energy Australia?
Or are they both the same and just go with the one who offers biggest discount?

  • +1

I negotiated 39% off for Electricity and 21% off Gas..

    • +1

      how ?

      • i jumped on the phone and asked for a better deal

        • With Energy Australia?

Are you on Sydney? (Pm if more comfortable)

Looking to do the same - only 25% on electricity currently and 19% on gas I think.

          Any particular bargaining tactic?

          Thanks bud.

        • @ozbjunkie: I'm in Melb

    • I got 32% off electricity with AGL.

I was originally with them for %18, rang and asked for better and they refused.

Went with another company and AGL rang me and offered 32% off.

A WARNING with discounts…. Be aware that you need to also look at the electricity rates (and times) as well. Companies are now allowed to charge "whatever rate they like" compared to the old days where everyone paid the same rates. Some companies can be like our friends at eBay that offer 20% discount but may have their prices hiked up 15% compared to others…..

As painful as it is, you need to shop around and compare.

I think they can do that for VIC households, not for QLDers.

    • Please mention which state you are in when quoting discounts - as the percentages change in each state (as well as the prices).

Not sure if we can club it with velocity points offer

    https://www.energyaustralia.com.au/velocity-offer?cid=pp|ref|vfe|voffer217||

    • So, any verdict, can we stack the cashrewards and velocity offers?

      • +1

        they are 2 different URLs
dont think it can be cominined.

  • It's deals like this that used to make me switch gas and electricity every 12 months in the UK. Pity I'm already with them.

  • +1

I strongly suggest against Energy Australia. Especially if you renting and moving house periodically.
They keep sending you bills for several months after you move out and close you old account. Very annoying.

    • Not only Energy Australia I reckon all the companies do it nowadays. When I need to disconnect, I emailed them, I rang them and I faxed my disconnection notice. Got everything in writing so save me heaps of time later down the track to phone and argue with them. ;)

  • I did a comparison for electricity with AGL 15% discount and Electricity Australia 18% for my usage and their supplied peak/off peak rates (different base rates before applying discounts) and solar tariffs (first round Tariff).
Worked out that AGL was still a bit cheaper by $7, $12, $29 and $25 based on my previous year’s usage.
I would be on top switching to EA from AGL just for the cashback and then back to AGL for the long run.
Currently couldn’t be stuffed right now so sticking with AGL.

    • I was already with AGL for both Elect 21% off & Gas 15% off. Last week I called AGL for a better plan and they offered me 24% off for Elect & 16% off for Gas and I switched to it.

      • Which state? I’m in SA and we don’t seem to get as big a discounts as other states from my investigation.

        • Yeah i think in SA we're a bit limited for choice but also our pricing seems less

        • NSW

  • I get community hot water in my building. Its essentially water via a gas powered boiler which is metered. Will I be able to switch this service to Energy Australia?

    • Is it included in your current gas bill? If so, it's considered part of your gas service

      • We don't get a separate gas bill. The bill just states "hot water". There is a gas connection though, but I believe that's unmetered since we don't get any bill for it.

    • +1

We have similar arrangement in our investment property (for electricity though). My agent said, it's possible, but have to install new separate meter (which cost a lot). Luckily the community one is quite reasonable.

    • Yes. They should be able to lookup your hot water meter number from their system.

Great deal moving from AGL where their plans suddenly shit the bed

Thanks! I was just about to sign up literally this morning, so you saved me $126

    • Glad this was helpful

Did you receive tracking email from CR ?

      • Not yet

        • Same here
Usually receive email in about 6-7 hours

        • FYI submitted request on Sunday
          Received tracking email today

        • @spk:

Thanks. I got the EA email to say I signed up on tuesday, and it seems cashrewards added the tracking today.

  • Dodo is way cheaper than EnergyAustralia atleast for my postcode - i compared for electricity !

  • People need to seriously do some investigation of Pacific Hydro. In the West of Melbourne with Powercor, there is nobody better.

Use the government site with proper smart meter data and you'll see for yourself.

My current deal has them charging me 9.6c ex GST for off peak vs my solar FIT of 11.3c ex GST. That means on the weekend my solar is worth more than grid power…

Yeah… AGL, EA never again for electricity. EA is better than AGL for gas…but to get a clear view you have to do the calculation yourself.

    • Yeah on Pacific Hydro atm as well. Bill has significantly reduce. I have to say it's so much better without all those convoluted discounts.

    • Check globird as well on that side of city.

  • I know gas prices doesn't vary as much, was told by those switch companies, so just switch my gas around for signup bonus.

  • How long we have to stay to get the cashrewards bonus cashback ?

  • FYI: Can’t sign up if you have solar panels. Need to call them up or request a call from them for further assistance……

My red energy only 21c/kWh. Discounted 10% if pay on time.
While energy aus charges 30c with 30% disc. So dont get fooled with big discounts

  • So is this deal just for those amounts quoted above, or does it also include a percentage off gas and electricity?

What sort of percentage off could I expect in NSW?

Do I need to change to a smart meter of I go for a contract?

    • 22 % off electricity
      $50 credit for each service
Plus cashback from cashrewards as per the post

      • Great, thanks for that! So there's no percentage off gas going forward?

        • Pls follow the link and you can find it

        • @spk:
          Ok thanks!

  • There are four areas people can get stung when it comes to their energy bills:
1)The discount is only on the usage and not the supply charge
2)You only get a discount if you pay on time
3)You only get a discount for a certain amount of time (usually 12 months) and then they charge you the full amount without notifying you your discount has expired
4)You have to pay extra for green energy if you want to do your part for the environment.

  • Q1 Are the $50 first bill credit and the Cashback for New Signups mutually exclusive because it says:

    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/energyaustralia
"Cashback will only be eligible when gas and electricity plans are signed up via the Cashrewards branded EnergyAustralia page you can access by clicking the Shop Now button from this page."

    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/coupons/switch-online-today-a…
"#Offer only for eligible customers who sign up for an eligible energy service via the EnergyAustralia website. You will receive $50 credit on the first electricity and/or first gas bill which is non-transferable and noon-refundable for cash."
Also the hashtag # was never referenced anywhere on the page other than their Special Offer Terms.

Q2. How long do I need to stay? 7 or 90 days
"Rewards may take 7 days to be credited to your account. You will receive an email to advise your rewards are pending and awaiting confirmation.
Estimated approval: Up to 90 Days
The return period of the goods has passed and the store has confirmed your cashback. Your rewards are now available for payment."

  • Q1. As long as you use the cashrewards link.. you'll be eligible for $70 from cashrewards + $50 from EA

Q2. 7 days for tracking email … 90 days from joining date(it depends on your billing cycle with your current provider.. on how quickly they can release your account) to receive the reward.

Which means.. you need to stay atleast 90 days from the switch date
