I'm looking for any recommendations for a shoe for working to work between the train station to the office. Doesn't have to be fancy or anything just reasonable in look and price and one that is at least a little water resistant
Currently have a new balance pair that was free for switching over my health insurance but the mesh/fabric front means that it gets soaked when just a little rain or water gets onto it

Just wear business shoes. People that wear sneakers or non business shoes with a suit (or business pants, which I am all assuming based on standard office attire) look like total dinguses.

Not a great look, agreed, but functional as business shoes tend to not have great cushioning plus you won't want to walk in the office with muddy business shoes and go for meetings in them
But I think it's easier to wipe the business shoes clean than something with fabric? And maybe the business shoes are more waterproof?

Possibly, but your average business shoe would still get soaked and ruined if it got wet enough.
I agree with OP. Apart from probably being less comfortable, wearing formal shoes to walk to and from work would wear them down a lot more quickly and mean you would have to buy new ones more often. Same as if you walked in a full suit.
Much better to get a good pair of walking shoes!
What is your price range and how far do you walk?
I wear waterproof Columbia trail shoes when I know it's wet out. About 4kms.
If it's pissing down the water will still run down your legs into the shoe.

I walk about 4km to work and back to home. It's more the splashback when walking and roads are wet. Might be that my 'free' pair from new balance is just crap anyways

We are currently wandering around Europe. We got some Keen walking shoes for Switzerland and they are brilliant. Easy to take on and off, no blisters from day one and waterproof. We got them from Escape2 at the DFO outlets. These will become my new walking shoes for around town for my return. If you are looking for summer sandles look at the Geox ones, but when they are on special.
