Convoy S2+ USD $9.99/~AUD $12.53 Delivered @ GearBest

150

Venerable Convoy S2+ 18650 Torch for a very low price. I accidentally blew the driver on my Astrolux S1 :'( and was looking for something cheap to replace it with until I get a chance to fix it.

There are loads of reviews out there, the S2+ is an extremely good value torch.

hi is something like this recharger safe to use? or will i be burning down my house with that price? https://www.gearbest.com/chargers/pp_469437.html

was thinking this plus the $7.50 for 2x 18650 rechargeable batteries

    • I don't know, sorry. I would pick the Xtar VC2 (https://www.gearbest.com/diy-parts-and-tools/pp_122249.html?…) if you need a cheap charger, reviews are good and Xtar is much more trusted than Ultrafire.

Edit: Looks like it's out of stock… Maybe a UM10 or something similar. Lithium Ion makes me nervous I would only use trusted cells and chargers.

      Ugh god no!

These cells are high discharge compared to cells most folks are used to handling, so you want to use a decent quality charger such as a Nitecore D4 and don't skimp upon the cell either, buy a decent cell if you don't want it blow up upon you or have the capacity of a AAA cell.

When it comes to batteries/chargers, I prefer to purchase a trusted brand. I'm currently using the Nitecore D4 Charger which can be purchased from this deal for ~AU $26.19, and can charge most rechargeable batteries.

      Other options are:

As for 18650 batteries, they are difficult to purchase from overseas, as most company don't ship tp Australia (due to customs). I recently purchased from this seller and it arrived the same week.

  • how did you blow the driver on your astrolux ?

(glad I kick the torch 'habit' a couple of years ago now)

  • This is the old model (rubber switch) but still an extremely good torch. Newer model had a metal switch

    • Can you provide a link? Never seen/heard that before. Even the new S3 only has rubber switch.

    • That's incorrect. There are various model of the Convoy S2+ Torch, some has the rubber/silicon switch and some has the metal switch (which cost more).

You can also get various LED and Driver (to change Tints) for the Convoy S2+ from Simon on their Official Convoy Store on Aliepxress.

      • The stainless steel switches came out after the rubber switches were releases. Just a matter of preference.

        • I was just correcting between the 'old' and 'new' model. They are the same, just personal preference for the switch. The Metal has a better feel/look, but not waterproof.

  • I got my hands on a cordless drill battery a few months ago and ripped out the 18650's out of them and bought 6 these!

I accidentally ordered a 'host' but that was serendipitous because I kinda enjoyed building a UV version from parts to go with my others 3 convoys. I also have a factory UV which is a lot brighter than my 3W DIY. My controller is probably weaker?

I also got a BLF at a good price. I think I prefer these over the convoys.

I've also got a 1MW?? laser which is super powerful, scary bright. Probably not as bright as some (mine can't light matches) but it's bright enough for me as a 'toy'.

I got my hands on another cordless battery so purchased a couple of powerbanks. Not sure I'll ever use them but might come in handy on a trip.

Anything else getting that use 18650s? Wonder how many I'll need to build a powerwall? :)

    • Laptop battery would be the best source for recycling 18650.

  • Any suggestions on a decent flashlight that has good light output when using AA batteries. Have plenty of eneloops to make use of.

I have Nitecore MT10A, decent performance but a bit expensive. So I think you can get Klarus Mi7.

  • Great little torch. I bought one in a previous deal. I also own an Astrolux s1 in warm white which I prefer over the cool white of the Convoy but it's only a minor gripe.
