Best Check-in Luggage for Its Price

Hi all,

I am going overseas in a few months and needing to buy 2 pieces of check-in luggage able to fit in about 20-25kg each. As an active ozbargainer, I am always looking out for the best deals, however luggage isn't exactly in my expertise/recent area of research (I only usually opt for carry-on only), so I was hoping my fellow ozbargainers can help me out in this area.

Is there any brand or specific model you would recommend? Of course I am looking for the best deal/cheapest price, but also for durability and something that doesn't weigh too heavy itself. 4x 360 degree wheels is also a necessity in luggages nowadays I believe. Also, would you recommend fabric or hard shell?

I'm aware that Myer often has 40% off luggage - is this actually a good deal? Or are there places with better prices?

Thanks all in advance!

I've picked up 2 awesome 4x360 wheel cases. (one (Tosca) had a broken padlock -replaced with a TSA lockable strap from aliexpress for $2, the other had a crack around the base of one wheel which I reinforced internally with liquid nails+metal plate and some bolts). both have been used on 4 overseas trips ad various domestic

I got a smallish mid size suitcase (not check-in) from some random shop in Japan about 10 years ago for about $50. Nothing special, I'd say it's probably the same as any Kmart cheapo luggage. Thing is still going strong after my own almost yearly trips, being borrowed by housemates, my brothers year and a half trekking around the world, and this year that I've spent lugging it to a new airbnb every month. My girlfriends Samsonite didn't even make it 3 years before the handle broke. Even if it lasted half this long, it'd just be a matter of picking up some more cheap luggage and seeing how it goes.

There's better quality, hopefully at good value, but I don't think luggage needs that much to be pretty good.
I also have an American Tourister check-in size. It feels a bit better but not that much difference. The size isn't that great for me though. Too small for long trips, and for short trips a large backpack often works just as well

American Tourister is my pick; you'll find best prices for luggage online.

If the things you want to bring back are relatively light and you want to maximise, the only choice is one of the 81cm Samsonite Curv. Cheapest for one of these is $260.
When I don't need that extra space, my favourite are the Crumpler Dry Red No 11 (78cm) and 12 (68cm). Got both of these for about $140 each - quite heavy but the wheels and handle are much better than the Samsonite.

Some airlines do not limit the number of bags you check in as long as you're under the max weight. In this case, just fill it up with foldable duffle bags
