Planning on Getting New Car FG F6 or XR6T?

Planning on moving from my FG G6 to a big boy car, the price difference from 2010+ XR6T to 2009 FG F6 is around 5-8K.

Is there any significant difference other than body?

The F6 has a bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, less restrictive airbox, higher-flow exhaust, etc over the XR6T. Also the "brand prestige" of FPV over just another Ford.

If you're looking at XR6Ts, watch out for the BA Typhoon rims (these ones), debadged side rear doors and boot lid, Brembo brakes, and around 80k km on the odometer. Those ones are most likely ex-HWP.

    • Also I believe that the Pistons are also different on the F6 (Heavier Gravity Cast as they state)

IMO I would buy the F6, although it costs more.

If you can avoid modifying, then it is insurable. Meaning that you have a car from factory that has more power than the standard and is legal.

Many buy XR6T's (and F6's) and they modify them heavily to discover they are not insured if an accident occurs.

Furthermore, as the F6's are rarer than XR6T's; not manufactured anymore (last @ 2014), it might be worth way more down the track.

I would look at buying @ WA if possible. As you can compare on Carsales that the cars in WA are way cheaper than other states.

      Cheers

      Which Toyota's are these?

From looking at Carsales the going rate for the car you want is $30 or $35k for a car which is 8 years old - I know you like the car but to me that is crazy. No warranty, much more likely to have issues than a new car, this model will probably be expensive to service. This is not the Ozbargain way! For that price you can buy a nice new car which will cost you much less money.

Last time I checked, the insurance on an F6 was way lower than an XR6T - worth looking into. I'd assume lots of turbos end up with bald tyres in trees driven by 22 year olds, while the F6 are kept coddled as weekend cars by oldies?

They drive very similarly, you won't really notice a difference with the interior (except a start button on the F6 I think, which I personally don't like), F6 sounds a bit different, and unless you're thrashing it you won't really feel the power difference.

Personally I'd go with the F6 but it would very much depend on the individual cars, especially this type and age. If looked after, Falcons/FPV are quite reliable long-term, and relatively cheap to fix with lots of parts available. They're a decent option for long-term ownership, even second hand.

The start button is the worst, because there’s still a physical key

Yep, and you still have to turn it to 'on' I think? Been a while since I used one, but I think it even still turns to the 'start' position and does nothing…
