I used to have an LG TV which had an inbuilt media player. When that died it was replaced by the Sony TV that had been used for gaming. The USB media player on it is utter crap. It does not support resume functionality, so if you're an hour into a movie and want to watch it the next day, you have to fast forward at a 4x snail pace.
Can anyone recommend a good cheap media player? The Kaiser Baas media hub was great back when I used to have one but they don't sell them anymore. It booted quickly and played every MP4 I had and of course had resume. Or would I be better off getting a raspberry pi and putting Kodi on it? My needs are simple, but searching around is showing many alternatives with plenty of negative reviews.
All the media files are on a USB hard drive so I don't want a wireless solution.
Cheers
Raspberry Pi 3 - Kodi Openelec 8.0.4 runs flawlessly.
You can connect the USB drive to it, if you want library features you'll you it to access wifi or if you want to use an android remote like Yatse.
