Renovate, Reuse and Recycle?

Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend. Thanks Queen!

We are embarking our massive bathroom reno, well massive to me. It's amazing to see the amount of stuff to be removed and potentially going to landfill. To those who have done it recently, can you please share with us how you "save" them? I tried to flog them off Gumtree and Freecycle but not getting very good response. Just thinking whether there are creative ways to recycle/reuse them. Had googled but love to hear your views.

Examples are:
- Shower screens - glass (some sliding, some with doors)
- Vanity Cabinet (without basin) (Even if I can convince hubby to use one in the BBQ area, there's still one extra)

We are going a different design so cant use them anymore….

P/s- No, I am not turning the toilet bowl into flower pots :-((

Gumtree, Airtasker, Facebook groups. Basically anywhere you can sell random items or post random classifieds. Heck even Ozbargain classifieds might do it if another user is looking to upgrade or do some renovations of their own just (profanity) it in selling as a freebie. Someone's trash can be someone's treasure.

    • Yes had done that. Strangely two items received overwhelming response but not those I listed above….

It's definitely a hit and miss area.. even high traffic posts can get no results yet a sleeper can get you what you need.

      • Yeah, it is hit and miss. Some things I put on gumtree when renovating went quickly, some didn't. You just have to be lucky to find someone who wants what you have at the right time. Unfotunately bathroom items tend to be somewhat 'fashion' items and a lot of people wont want your old item because they aren't renovating to make something look 20 years old, even on the cheap. Of course, there is always someone somewhere that will take your items, just a bit hard to find at times.

Our local garbage dump has a recycle facility. They will either recycle what they can or put it in their second hand shop for sale. Maybe you have something similar in your area?

    • Thanks I didn't think Of that. Will check.

Perhaps places like Reverse Garbage or The Bower? Not sure what your local options are.

    • We used to have RG many years ago but haven't heard for a while. Will check.

  • Going to try this: removed old basin from vanity, and what's left is a perfect cabinet. Will slide this under hubbys workbench.
    Wish me luck!
