I'll be taking a 10-day overseas trip next month which entails flying in and out* of Coolangatta Airport. In order to get to Coolangatta Airport, I'll need to drive from Brisbane.
I've used rental cars in the past, but for my last 2 trips, I drove my own car and used an off-site **long-term carpark (with free shuttle service to and from the airport). I even took public transport (train and bus), about 5 years ago, but it was more trouble than it was worth.
Over the past few years, I've noticed that both car rental and airport parking prices for Coolangatta Airport have risen quite steeply.
Does anyone have any good tips on minimising the cost of getting to and from Brisbane and Coolangatta Airport?
Thanks!
*Flight departs at 9 am.
** Has to be undercover or indoor parking
If you have the time the cheapest option would be to catch the Airtrain (Brisbane-Gold Coast) to Varisty Lakes Station. Then catch the 760 bus to the airport. The train takes approx. 1hr 20min from Roma Street and the bus from the station to the airport takes around half an hour. The entire trip costs around $13 each way with a Go-card, check translink for the times. Or you can catch a taxi from Varisty Lakes (there's usually one on the rank) to the airport, which takes about 15 minutes.
There's also the Byron Bay Shuttle that costs $36 each way leaving from Roma Street and takes about an hour and a half.
