I'm surprised they sell it at a $50 off the RRP. Apple products (especially iPads/iPods) have no margin, hence why JB Hifi and DSE always have an "Excludes Apple computers and iPads" when they have sales, and "Excludes iPads" when they have a sale on Apple computers.
Edit: There's also $30 off the 32GB Wifi+3G which is worth mentioning.
I had all prices listed, including the few $ discount off wifi iPad, but u can see from comment 1 I was told other discounts irrelevant so removed…

Id hold off it you can wait another few months, revision two of the ipad will be due very soon and hopefully it will have a better screen, inbuilt camera and other items that many users want, Apple tends to give less with the first revision of any product and leave out key requirements so they can sell the next updated model to its followers (like me) Im waiting for rev two :)
I would definately hold off for the next model. There are soooo many improvements to be made with the things its not funny. Next one should have printing abilities, USB port, upgraded screen, camera which is already on iphone 4 etc.
I always skip the first gen product and grab the 2nd gen one, and it will last for a good 2-3 years as the upgrades after that are mostly pretty minimal.
I agree. This iPad don't even have facetime. If you can hold, wait for the 2nd gen release which is rumoured to be next year. Apple products sale is a good indiciation that next model is due to be released soon.
Do we have a date for next gen release? I didn't see one in any research. Of course there will be one, but wonder how long we'll be waiting? If u have a date pls share as may impact peoples decision to buy or wait =) I'd guess mid 2011, but just a guess
You won't know the date until Apple release it. There's no official announcement so it's all just a prediction for now.
If you can wait then wait because it only make sense for Apple to upgrade this iPad atleast with the Facetime/camera functions.
Exactly, we have no idea - that was my point. Know owning one I'd never use a camera function, but am sure future gens will have this useless function. Size alone preventative. There's a reason small cameras are popular. Unless people waiting also want next gen ipad to be smaller? Suggest if people are wanting all specs of iPhone to justify purchase best to just buy iPhone 4. Don't we buy different devices for different uses?
probably around mid 2011 or slightly earlier. but it just is not worth buying one now with everything that needs to be done before it will be worthwhile.
Its not like the iphone 4, which has had 3 generations before it and all the bugs are worked out, and its basically a perfect phone now anyone could buy and be happy with.
The ipad has alot of work to be done and it is the first model ever released, much better off waiting the 6months or so before a new model.

I don't see why you guys are all worked up over the iPad not having a camera and facetime? The iPad is so huge, how do you expect to use it as a camera? I reckon if you tried then there would be a good chance that you'd drop the precious thing.
Furthermore, this device was never intended to be a phone. So why try to make it one? Granted webcam functionality would be great though.
Re USB access - can you ever see this happening on an Apple product ever? Anyways, with the camera addon, you can get close to accessing USB devices if you jailbreak.

I could be wrong but I'm 99% sure Apple staff don't get discounts on iPads. I'm 100% they don't get discounts in iPhones.

What I found isn't exactly a deal but if your looking it is definately of interest! I'm thinkin im going to buy a 64GB wifi + 3G from the american apple site ( http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad?… ) for $US 829. With our dollar in the high 90s region atm prics works out close to the same ($AU845??). Thing is that they only ship domestic, I have a cousin who I'm sending it too and who will then send it on to me but obviously only useful if you know someone in the states. If you do though you can save a bit of cash AND get something engraved on the back by apple for free! What to get…

That was my plan until I learned the state my friend lived in had 8.25% tax on top of $829. Purchased night we were at $0.99 US cents. Ended up costing $1050 all up inc shipping, currency conversion and paypal fee but essentially got case and 2 yr international warranty for free, or saved $180 whichever way u wanna look at it. Worked well.
Convenience wise Big W would have been easier. Believe it was worth effort and had in my hand 2 days later. Fed Ex rocks!
Tip tho… Make sure it's marked under $1,000 in value or customs will nab and charge import duties and dollar at 98cents minimum - unless u don't have to pay extra tax I incurred.

a couple of tips
1) it is possible to buy wishcard giftcard to save another 5%.
2) there is this Melbourne lady who runs an online purchase service for Aussies, her agent is in a state where there is no sales tax. I think she takes a 5% service fee.

Another BigW sales flop. Our store has yet to even sell one. Just like that $1197 TV/PS3 deal, we have 40 out the back without one being sold since they launched months ago!
Sales for the company slipped last year and they are desperate to keep ahead while Kmart continues to go from strength to strength.
