Water damaged GoPro - travel insurance claim

Hi all,

Looking for some help or advice.

I'm currently in the Philippines enjoying a holiday at some island resorts and I unfortunately had some water leak into the gopro hero 3+ black waterproof housing, resulting in it not turning on. I've tried all the remedys, bag of rice, drying it with a blow dryer etc. To no avail.

I took out travel insurance with world2cover as I saw there was a post stating 20% discount on it on ozbargain and that they were generally good.

I read the exclusions on claiming damaged goods and it states that regular wear and tear, atmospheric and weather conditions aren't covered.

My question is will they reimburse me and if not is there another way I can possibly claim it without saying it was stolen?

Thanks in advanced.

Ronn

  • How about calling them and asking?

Or if you purchased with your credit card, it may have come with travel insurance

You will have to pay an excess to make a claim so you will have to weigh this up against just buying a new one yourself. They may make you send it in to have it assessed so lying about how you damaged it will probably come back to bite you.

  • You took out an insurance policy…go ask the insurance company if it's covered. No point canvassing opinions here - no one here has any say in the matter.

  • Let us know how it does, had no idea it covered damage to electronic equipment.

  • this is OzBargain, not OzInsurance.

Please don't claim it is stolen if it wasn't. Insurance fraud makes it more expensive for the rest of us.

Just tell them what you told us.

Used it in water, water leaked, GoPro damaged, etc.

Any TI worth their value would assess the claim, pay out according to their depreciation tables, and deduct the excess if applicable. You get a bank transfer maybe 3-4 weeks later and you top up the difference to buy a new GoPro.

Pretty sure wear and tear; weather and atmospheric won't apply to this claim.

  • Just wondering how you went with your claim?
