Anyone Had Any Problems with Fantastic Furniture?

I purchased a lounge from Fantastic Furniture which took over 2 months to arrive. I have had it for 1 month now and very dissatisfied with it. There is imperfections on the chaise as well as the cushions are sagging. If I lay on the couch I end up leaning to one side. I have phoned them to make a complaint. They said they can send someone around to pick it up - but there will be a window of a few hours that I will need to wait for the delivery driver, then wait for them to fix it, then wait until the next weekend for them to deliver it back and wait another few hours for them to arrive as they won't give a time!!! Grrrrrrr…. Has anyone else had any experiences like this?

Unfortunately the time frames given are quite common place in Australia (or Sydney anyway) so it is not limited to Fantastic Furniture. Can't comment on the quality as I've never purchased from them before

    • I know it is normal. I am just sooo annoyed that it looks like I will have no lounge for a week and have to waste 2 half days because of their faulty product. I wonder if it would be entitled to a refund?

      • Consumers may ask for a refund if the goods purchased:

        • have a basic, serious fault that was not known by the consumer at the time of purchase
        • do not do the job that the consumer was led to believe they would do
        • do not match the sample the consumer was shown, or
        • do not fit their description.

Consumers and traders may negotiate other solutions such as a repair or replacement but under these circumstances a consumer has a legal right to cancel a contract (rescind) and receive a refund if there is a breach of that contract.

    • i worked for nick scali and fantastic furniture was talked about there alot because they are apparently much better with their customer service, we were taught to be rude to our customers. several staff members at the time commented that they would buy from fantastic rather than use their staff discount. the drivers worked for both companies so they knew.

we had someone pay $2000 for furniture and because we were so bad to him he told us to shove it, wasnt worth the hassle of even trying to get a refund.

Well…judging from the prices, i would never expect them to be good quality in the first place.

    Maybe - lesson learnt? :D

    • Yes lesson learnt :(

Perhaps now they do not seem so… Fantastic?

    • Definately not fantastic LOL

  • got some stuff from them before, purchased on friday, arrived on saturday as I just moved states and needed a new bed + robes..etc

they were self-assembled though… so maybe thats why it's fast for me.

  • At least they are trying to remedy the situation. If you again suffer a negative issue, I'd bring that to the attention of the store manager and if they are unable to satisfy your request you may need to go higher up.

  • "Fantastic" is more about their price rather than quality I found. I have bought a few stuff from them in the past, including bed, sofa bed, bed-side table, etc. I do realise that I get what I pay for.

All of them were picked up on the spot though (Moore Park, Sydney) so have no idea about delivery time.

  • their stuff is always crap! My wardrobes and drawers fell apart in no time!!!! Get a refund if you can.

As the saying goes, you do get what you pay for.

However, having said that, I would not consider that a lounge (albeit a cheap crappy one) that develops problems after only 1 month to be of "merchantable quality". The Trade Practices Act 1974 Section 74D deals with actions in respect of goods of unmerchantable quality, see here http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/tpa1974149…

Go back to the store and tell them that you are exercising your right to one of the three R's - refund, repair or replace. It is also the customer's choice which of the R's is chosen - not the store's decision.
Mention the Act and that you'll be lodging a claim with the Fair Trading Department in your state if they are being difficult (not ACCC).

    Edit: included link to legislation.

  • Thanks everyone. I spoke to them again and they did offer to come and pick it up @ 6am one morning so I don't have to wait. Happy about that but I have told them I just want a refund now…

  • I laugh everytime I go in there. Their display stuff is always broken or falling apart, e.g leg coming off dinner table. Says a lot for their quality and how much they care.

    • wow…i thought ikea was bad..

  • guys you get what you pay for. only thing that really annoys me n this why i avoid going there at all costs, however had to get a cheap new futon (n yes im aware that those ones are not greatly made, for which i will be doing stuff to it to make it stronger boards slats etc)

Had to get it delivered, $52 for a local resident delivery, i said why is it so much? they said 'oh its because their contracters' n if i was any further than a couple km's, they charge you more. but knox city one was the closets.

So for $52 minimum they also only deliverer on wednesdays and saturdays. so pretty much what unfantastic furniture, message they send to their customers, is

'hey we know our delivery service is shit and expensive, but we dont care you bitches'

i hope never to shop there again after this, a classic australian chain store that is soo terribly shit
they will prolly follow the other stores of shutting down in the near future.

    • Way to bump a thread from 2 years ago!

Anyways, the overheads in each fantastic furniture having its own truck, employed driver and caddy. Would make thier prices pretty high, absorbing all these costs add up. Is easier to use a courier(jet, lightning, any other) the delivery company have thier set fees, and is most likely insured by the courier. $52 isn't that cheap, but hire a ute/van for that price, good luck, pays to have a mate,, 6 pack or a slab is cheaper than them!

  • It's not just Fantastic. I had similar issue with Hardly Normal. Bought a bed and mattress. No problems with the mattress, but the bed was in really bad shape… a few of the wooden slats were cracked, the slats were uneven and would not align with the bed frames etc… I have put together a fair few items from Ikea, so this was absolutely poor in how it was designed to be assembled.

Anyway, we called them up to complain. At first they refused to do anything, but after sending them photos and threatened to take it to Fair Trading, they agreed to pick it up and provide a refund. They still refused to refund the delivery costs, just the cost of the bed. And they would only pick it up between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

  • I bought a couch from them 5 years ago. I really like it. it's big and visitors can crash on it. it's cloth covered so with 3 kids I have had to have it cleaned twice (no big deal and not a negative) but it did come up really clean and almost new looking after a clean.

I would buy something again from Fantastic furniture. though I am pretty picky and the couch I saw was pretty much the only thing in the store that caught my eye. as previous comments state, a lot of stuff is pretty average quality or average design. and regardless of you buy you may have a crap/inconvenient experience.

  • Bought our furniture for our whole house from Fantastic furniture, and am happy with it and their service. Delivered in 2-3 days (in WA).

  • Check this out http://whrl.pl/Rd6enB pay particular attention to the pictures. The low priced couches are terrible. They arrive broken with nails not banged in and all creaky and falling to bits.

    Woeful crap.
