Remember to select cheap shipping if you want to save yourself a little over $20 in postage. And you MUST change the plug from Chinese plug to US plug.

Don't forget you will need a good micro SDHC card to record your video - class 10 should be good enough (anything that can write 7.5mb/sec sustained and above). You will also need an Australian IEC power cable (kettle plug cable) to charge the batteries.

Happy flying!

lol. Changing the charging plug from US to CN (which is the same as AU) jacks the price up to $849..

    • You're right (and yes it is odd). I forgot to mention this. Edited.

    • +2

don't you know CN pins are made of 24K gold?

  • -8

You could 've mentioned this as a courtesy…

Yeah maybe (although "someone else sent me this deal after I found it for myself" didn't seem particularly relevant).

You could've also posted the deal here as a courtesy…

    • -3

Nobody posted any deals there. It's just your thread asking for a drone suggestion, and your reply stating you've found this model. No exact price, no website… no deal.

  • "Don't forget you will need a…" boat capable of reaching international waters so you can fly the damnable thing.

    • It works fine. It locks into local laws (120m ceiling, 500m range). I believe there are ways to circumvent this if you try…

      • are they seriously our laws here in aus? holy moly i had no idea. still waiting on mine to arrive from last deal and didnt realise out laws were so pissweak

        • Depends where you are but its brutal… It basically made me give up the idea.

You cannot fly in any Vic Parks - "Recreational use of RPAS by the general public is prohibited on Parks Victoria managed land. The recreational use of RPAS is not permitted under Parks Victoria regulations and visitors should refrain from flying them or they may receive a penalty infringement notice."

People are reporting issues when flying on beaches, even if mainly secluded. Private land owners aswell, I think the general stigma is just not great with drone flying.

        • @shizmo: geeze :/

        • +3

          @blaze: @shizmo:
If you want to get a good look where you can and can't fly, download the "Can I Fly There" app put out by CASA. It's surprisingly helpful!

        • @shizmo:

People are reporting issues when flying on beaches, even if mainly secluded.

          What kind of issues?

  • Any suggestions as to how this compares with DJI models (I assume maybe spark or Phantom 3…?

    • It's about a third of the price, for starters. There are several comparison reviews on youtube. It compares largely favourably with other DJI equivalents twice (and more) the price.

    • I've been asking myself all morning too.. found some youtube articles (there's HEAPS so do a search on it and pick any one to watch). Majority of the reviews agree that is compares with the DJI Ph4 standard. I'm stuck on getting one of these (which is good for beginners like me) or getting the smaller and much more portable Spark for $100 more.

Likely to go Spark though.. Easier to sneak through everywhere. lol

      • Was in the same situation but the spark has such a short flight time. On the other hand the phantom 4 is great but everything else you need for it costs a fortune starting with the battery being about three times as expensive

        • So get a mavic lol. It's exactly in between those two and has none of the drawbacks you mentioned. I wouldn't bother with the spark as it will be blown away in moderate winds. Handy for travel selfie shots to get some of the landscape in the background, but that's about it.

        • @bohdud: The drawback is the price.

I heavily researched this drone during the last time it was posted…. I chose not to go ahead because of many reports of gimbals which are not level. I have had a Xiaomi phone which had a capacitive touchscreen damaged just by being in a bike mount, with no local warranty, it's not a risk I want to take.

I ended up buying a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced (2.7k video @ 30fps & 1080p @ 60fps, lightbridge) with 3 batteries (so 1 hour+ flight time) for $650 delivered from a reliable seller on eBay during recent 18% off, being shipped from the states. No warranty either but decent resale value even for just the parts, I could get $500 I reckon in worst case scenario.

Poor resale value for non DJI drones.

Spark is not good enough, in my opinion, 1080p @ 30fps, only 2 axis gimbal not 3, no lightbridge, just wifi, and 12-15 minute flight time.

      • I heard they fixed the gimble on one of there updates when my one shipped gimble was fine on the horizon was thinking about getting dji but australian laws put me of it as for how you can fly it so jumped purchased the 4k xiaomi and never looked back just burning i paid $650 around 3 months ago and now its down to $500 but still happy

      • +1

You are correct with the parts. I sold my Phantom 3 standard for parts and almost made my money back even tho it was 12 months old and had an connection error

  • +1

Can someone confirm this does shoot RAW still photos? I've never been able to get my hands on a sample photo verify it..

  • +2

Too many things that I want to buy….

  • anyone know the battery life of these compared to the DJI mavic?????

    • These are rated to be 27 Minutes with little crosswinds of Flight time. Mavic is rated at "max" of 27 Minutes but most are reporting it <21 Min. Probably about the same in real world though

    • I get just over 20min on extreme conditions highly recommended drone though :)

  • Just thinking out loud.. Would it be possible to mount my Samsung Gear 360 on the gimbal instead? I wanna do VR fly throughs with 360 video. mmmm…

    • Would be easier to tape four or six drones together and stitch the footage.

  • -3

This is not safe. Do not buy it. So many problems cant be solved.

    • Must be Dji rep :)

    • Genuine question

Can you give some examples please about what is not safe?

I have the drone and have only flown it a few times in a park, what safety issues are you referring too?

      • -1

It can lose control at any moment without any warning.

    • -1

when I first post about the 1000X cracking issue. I was said to be a Bose rep. Haha! Safety first!

  • Does anyone know where to source a cheap extra battery for this? Gearbest have a lovely little code (MIBATTERYIT) that takes it to US$68 (so around AU$85), BUT they won't ship the battery to Australia (but will happily ship the copter with a battery to Australia - go figure).

Cheapest I can find anywhere is banggood or ebay (both around AU$110).

    • +1

Cheapest one i grabbed was from Banggood with the discount for around $100 au

      • What is this discount of which you speak? I feel like I missed something…

        • +1

When i grabbed the app gave me a extra 10%

        • @stussy:
Thanks. I tried but it won't allow a discount on an already discounted item. $110 seems reasonable, but cheaper would be better :). Out of curiosity did they ship the 4k battery (gold button) ?? Thanks mate.

        • +1

          @ozoner:

Yep they sent the gold button one

        • +3

          @stussy:
          Great success!! :)

          https://www.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Mi-Drone-RC-Quadcopter-Spare…

Apply code "ToysHo" gives you an extra 8% off already discounted RC items. Total cost $101.91 for the 4k version battery. Winning.

  • i'd honestly feel safer paying extra and purchasing this through Aliexpress

    • Purchased one from gearbest and it arrived in just over a week around 3 months ago

    • +2

What is the benefit of purchasing through Aliexpress rather than Gearbest?

      • i've had items not turn up from gearbest in the past and always had things delivered from aliexpress.

xiaomi have their own store on aliexpress

    • +1

PayPal purchase protection (if buying from Gearbest) is equal to or better than Aliexpress.
Should be fine to buy from either.

  • I know this applies to any higher value item, but what happens if you purchase one of these and it arrives faulty.

    Is there any recourse?

Having to pay registered shipping fees to return the product, I am guessing would be $100's of dollars.

    • +1

make sure you have a flight to china already booked ahead of time.. thats what I did.. got my DJI Spark today.. if any issues I will return to China next month :P

    • PayPal purchase protection + free returns, a good 'warranty' option for the first 6 months.

    • +1

Got mine a week ago. After doing some gimbal tests the gimbal no longer calibrates - never even got a chance to fly it. Customer support have finally acknowledged the issue, but want me to pay return shipping and have it refunded to my Gearbest wallet.

  • +1

There's a lengthy thread on this drone on RCGroups if anyone wants to partake: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2671206-Offic…

  • seems like the offer has changed slightly. The model now says US PLug + External Battery. Internal battery version is more expensive. Does anymore know the difference?

    • I got on to buy it and saw this change in description, beats me, what it means.
I have sent them the question.
I read it as "additional battery" or one battery only.
If anyone knows, please help :)

      Thank you

      • The package contents changes with every option. But still makes no sense.

        US plug + external battery : Package Contents: 1 x Quadcopter, 1 x Rechargeable Battery, 1 x Transmitter, 1 x Camera, 1 x Charger, 1 x English Manual
        CN plug + External battery: Package Contents: 1 x Quadcopter, 1 x Rechargeable Battery, 1 x Transmitter, 1 x Camera, 1 x Charger, 1 x Chinese Manual

        US plug + Built-in Battery: Package Contents: 1 x Quadcopter ( Battery Included ), 1 x Transmitter, 1 x Camera, 1 x Charger, 1 x English Manual
        CN plug + Built in battery: Package Contents: 1 x Quadcopter ( Battery Included ), 1 x Transmitter, 1 x Camera, 1 x Charger, 1 x English Manual

        • Asked the Livehcat, they have answered : "The inbuilt battery means that you will not be able to remove the battery, only charge it. External means the battery can be removed."

I didn't know that was an option with those drones..
          I asked if it a genuine product…
They answered "Yes, all products on our site are 100% genuine" (as expected.)

        • @Elias11:

This is odd. Must be a new option for the drone? It looks like right at this moment, they only have stock of the external battery version anyhow (the internal battery version ships a few days later, and shows no current stock).

On the upside, the chinese plug version is now the same price as the US plug version. Both US and CN plugs (external battery) are in stock.

I spoke to online support who confirmed everything being sent until now has been the external battery version. It defaults to external battery on the website, too.

It does seem odd that the external battery version is cheaper?? Surely having an external battery is better…. I suspect making the battery non-removable gets around some countries' import restrictions. That's my guess anyhow.

        • @ozoner:
yes very odd, I have doubts, like the Mi website has no mention of removable battery, so my brain goes 'Chinese copy' straight away.
So I would get the eternal battery anyways as I would have a second spare battery with me.

        • @ozoner: I have sent an email to Xiaomi asking about this option.
          Fingers crossed they reply :)

        • @Elias11:
I'll be interested to hear the response you get. I think gearbest are unlikely to be shipping knockoffs of a drone like this, but stranger thing have happened.

        • @ozoner:the answer from gearbest:

          Hello Elias,

          No, there is one battery.

External Battery means we will put the battery outside of the quadcopter.

Built-in Battery means we will put the battery inside of the quadcopter.

        • +1

          @Elias11:
That doesn't make any sense either - that means they're charging $170 or thereabouts to put the battery in?!?!

        • +2

          @ozoner I found this explanation…

It's simple, because Gearbest is having a lot of troubles with parcels express shipping at the customs in Europe as far as we know; so they splitted the 4kg original package in #2 2kg packages tryng to bypass the customs clearance issue… that's all…

  • Has anyone's shipped yet? Mine has been sitting at "packed" for a week.

    • +1

Mine is saying it's shipped (after I clicked the "prioritise my package" a few times). But no tracking information available…

I'm betting mine and yours are stuck there until after the holidays over there. Sucks, but what can you do….

      • Yeah, pity they didn't get them out in the week before the holiday. Looks things don't start moving until next week.

      • Still not shipped. Though a cheapie item ordered two days ago shipped within 24 hours. The OzB GearBest rep is looking into it.

        • Same. Bought a silicone protector for the remote and some prop guards which shipped out before the drone even though I ordered the drone a few days before

        • @dave011: If you bought the drone from this deal, has it shipped yet (ie, you got tracking info)?

        • @Thrift:

yeah I bought the drone from this deal. I ordered it a week and a half ago, it hasn't shipped yet and it's been sitting in 'packed' for almost a week!

        • @dave011: I'll message the GearBest rep again and see if we can find out what's happening. So much for 7-14 day delivery :)

        • @Thrift:

Just got an email couple of minutes ago, the drone has been officially shipped out

        • @dave011: Yeah, mine too. Let's hope for speedy delivery now :)

        • +1

          @dave011: Getting closer!

Oct 14, 2017 01:44 am Processed through Australia Post facility CHULLORA NSW

        • @Thrift:

Sweet! Going to pick mine up today from the post office

  • +1

Pls feel free to pm me if your order havent been shipped in time.

    • Hey mate, how do I get this for the price in the title?

    • I ordered mine on 25th September (when the website said it would ship out 28th or 29th of September, can't remember which), and it shipped out on 5th October. I'm not sure if that's the kind of service you're striving for, but I can tell you as a customer, it's not pretty. Cheap price is appreciated, but comes at a cost…

  • Hi OP,Is it possible that you updated this deal with new coupon?

    • Sure.

    • Actually, looks like I can't edit it now? (unless I'm missing something). Maybe it's too old. Maybe submit your own deal? (Also nice one getting it under USD400 and allowing chinese plugs for the same price)

      • My next post chance will be next week, thank you for your kind information.I am sorry for delay shipping of your order, you can always contact me for help. You have a good night!

  • please be aware of that the gear beat is China based company, and has no contact phone number. the fb, online chat, and email are time consuming and hard. You probably can find a lot of complaints online including slow shipping, broken goods, no refund, and etc. please use credit card for extra security in case of things go wrong.you can always make a complaint to your card issuer.

  • found a deal for a battery $69.99
    ends tomorrow 19th
    https://www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopter-parts/pp_425662.html
    MBattery12

    • Good price, but "Cannot ship to Australia"

  • Have they managed to knock off the DJI features like Return to Home & Active Track?

  • Received mine, charger is faulty, so is the battery checked it with another charger.

oh and also the gimbal is faulty too, isn't detected by the drone :) and have updated everything.

    Loving life.

    • Same issue with my gimbal. Have you submitted a gearbest ticket? I've also PM'd the rep here, will let you know how it turns out.

      • Just submitted a ticket, but with their track record of not responding, Probably going to initiate a chargeback via Amex if they don't respond.

Does your charger light up like this when charging? - https://i.imgur.com/bkjjyFU.png

Mine doesn't have tested multiple figure 8 cables.. pretty salty hahah. waited a month for it to arrive to be able to not use it

        • My charger's all fine. The only other thing I have is that the battery is insanely hard to remove from the drone.
