Ideas for Things to Sell on eBay Business in Mobile Accessories

Ideas for things to sell on eBay business in mobile accessories

Hi,

I have started an ebay business in April specialising in mobile phone accessories. Is their anything you guys like to buy and what price you would pay for it. Items will be shipped from Melbourne so please make a fair value. The only advantage this business has is fast shipping compared to dropshipping.

Thank you

    • Thank you for your suggestion. I like to have items in Melbourne to be shipped fast as i dislike drop shipping due to time it takes.

      • I dislike fast shipping because of the money it costs.

        • Yes fast shipping cost more but it depends on the product. Some people will pay a bit more to get the product in 1 week supposed to 1 month.

  • Tough market! There's a million million options on ebay selling anything you could possibly want

    • Thanks for your comment

  • Since you'll never be able to match them on price, what would you be able to offer that some Chinese distributor can't?

    • +1

The only advantage between us and Chinese distributors is we will be shipping products from Melbourne for fast shipping. People will pay a Bit more money to get a product in a couple of days or 1 week compared to waiting for 1 month.

You've had your business for like six months.

Are people paying you more for the fast shipping or not?
I suspect not, otherwise you'd be swimming in cash instead of asking us for ideas.

        • Business is actually going good and people are paying more money for fast shipping. I'm just asking the OzBargain community on what they like as their are some people as my self who will like fast shipping for 1 week supposed to waiting 1 month. I also price my goods as they are worth it.

  • It needs to be something 'different'. Paying a bit more for faster is OK, but having something distinctive that noone else has is a big advatage.

Thank you for your comment. Trying to find that something different is the hard thing that people will want.

      • Which is why it is hard to compete. Someone will always offer a lower price than you, especially with a global market.

Don't forget if you are starting with a no drop shipping policy, you will need to hold all the stock, which means paying for it, which means you HAVE to sell it to make money. It is a big risk, especially if you are playing in a crowded market place.

        • Yes I have been in the market for 6 months and we do as you have said, we buy the stock and hold it in Melbourne and when their is an order we ship it. It is more of a risk compared to dropshipping but so far business is going good. Their are some products that just sit but it depends on what you buy. Some products I sell are very popular and some are not. It is a very competitive market. Their will always be someone who could beat you or you could beat them.

  • Personally, I'd be looking to branch out into a different market as opposed to expanding in the mobile accessories space, I imagine it would be quite competitive and there wouldn't be too much profit in it, something that there aren't a million sellers for already.

    • What different market is it your interested in.

      • The things I am interested in I wouldn't try to sell, getting the right product(s) is probably the main factor of success.
What I wouldn't be looking to sell though is something that can be had exactly the same from China for cheaper. As you have no product and are just looking to be the middleman you want someone who is good at creating a product but is fairly computer illiterate so they won't cut you out of the loop. Something like honey, for example, you will often find an older beekeeper selling at markets etc, I'd approach someone like that and see if you could start selling it online, try and get a reduced price if you are buying bulk, market it as "Pure 100% Australian Natural Honey, Direct from the Hive" or similar and then look at selling it directly to China on a site like Tmall. I'm not necessarily saying Honey is the right product, but you need to think differently to others to differentiate yourself.

        • Thank you for your detailed comment. This is a good idea, I will look at ideas similar to what you said. As you said to be successful is to think differently to others to differentiate yourself. Thank you

  • I am predicting there may be a new emerging market.
They way it works is you go to all the major supermarkets and clear the shelves of baby formula.
You then sell the formula on Taobao at a grossly inflated figure to emerging upper and middle class in Mainland China whom do not trust there countryman would not fill milk formula tin with rat sack to make a quick buck.

I was going to suggest investing in USED sex dolls and renting them out in China, but apparently that ship has sailed

    • yeah keep on seeing on the news about the baby formula. But their are a lot of unhappy Australians with what they are doing.

  • Things like cases and screen protectors I buy from an Australian store for the exact reason you say, quicker delivery. I don't mind a little more in cost.

But that doesn't mean they are super expensive, I don't buy $30 cases, a $2 aliexpress plastic case I may pay $10, screen protectors are $5 for example ( aliexpress is $2)

Good luck with the business .

    • Thank you for your comment. Already have few cases and tempered glass and they cost only a few dollars more than from China to sell with the consumers benefit of receiving it in a week I try to make sure the price is very reasonable by shipping from Melbourne and not too much.
