What are peoples use cases for this item?
Propped up at the front door or?
I have a problem where I forget if I've closed the carport when I leave the house, so I'm getting one just to check if it's closed when I leave.
Hello twin :)

Four and counting…
Oh, Me too! It's so annoying.. ..Where do you guys live?
ill get another, soon ill have a 360* view around my house
This deal might last a little longer than normal, think some people might be experiencing bargain fatigue.
Don't put these sort of cheap cams in sensitive areas around the home, and by sensitive I mean bedrooms, childs rooms etc. They are easily hackable.
Through what method are they 'easily hackable'? If the homes router is setup properly, exploits would be very limited to just MITM attacks, that need the attacker to be in a close proximity.
Though, if you know of other exploits, do share!Disclaimer: I don't know what the backend of the mi.com site used for remote viewing is.
If the homes router is setup properly,
That's how. 8/10 aren't.
Right. I'm simply issuing a warning, a warning that is widespread on the internet regardless, if you do your research. Take it how you will. But people need to be aware.
@northernculture: is there a good comprehensive web site that you can recommend? I think I've got my settings locked down, but I'm worried about not being locked down against the exploits that I don't know about.
AFAIK replacing the firmware with xiaofanghack makes it more vulnerable and open for someone to view your cam from the web.
@northernculture: I'm agreeing with you.
even with fanghacks installed?
whats gunna happen? someone watch my baby take a shit in his sleep?Just because you don't care doesn't mean others don't.
no one cares.
Let me guess, you put tape on your laptops camera also?
@jaimex2: Yes they do. Just because you don't doesn't mean others don't.
Hold on, I'm just off to check cornhub for one of your vids.
@northernculture: please be sure to like my videos and leave a comment.
explain to me what exactly do they care about the chinese govt seeing
@jaimex2: 3 days late to reply but was re-reading and came across this, yep, I tape all my laptop webcams proudly.
I just wish they had a good functioning app to go with it (that was in English). Then again, can't really complain at this price.
I hear that with some fiddling it's compatible with one of the main home apps.. read on a previous deal but sorry can't remember which one..
Yeah after trying a few I managed to get it to work with Mi Home but it's not the best app (plus a lot of it is in Chinese). Updating the firmware made the camera unreachable for about a day and just pairing the camera to the app took hours. Just my experience though, and still worth it at this price once it's all set.
I'm currently writing a web based GUI for them, to avoid the app all together, since mi.com wants to talk with the cameras over port 80 - As part of my "DIY Smart Home" project that will eventually be internet-published with a full buildlog.
TL;DR Let me know if you'd like to know when I'm finished coding the alternative to the Mi Home App over PM and I shall notify you when I am done.
Edit: Didn't realize how many people wanted this, I guess I'll put some extra effort in.. Feel free to PM me with any text and I'll add you to the list of people to notify.
@dfaktz: subscribed
I too am interested in your web GUI so please notify me. Many thx.
Can you tell us more? I've recently installed Home Assistant and it's a great flexible framework for the many devices and sensors that you can get on OzB.
PM sent, excited!
Compatible with Homebridge at all?
Why do I need this?!?! Someone please explain, why I need this?!!?
Buy now think later.
Ozbargain. Buy now, think later.
All of us need to etch this on a brass plaque above our beds, NOW
if you live alone, put it on your bedroom so when you lay down on bed, you can check if actually 'alone' before closing your eyes :)
Sound good… got one thank TA
Just ordered, will be my 4th, still waiting on my 3rd. How many do you guys have?
This is my first one…
Got one in the mail a couple of days ago but just wondering how to set up 24/7 recording that won't stop once the memory card is full. Although maybe that is asking too much of a basic device.
Deal expired :(
It says The code you have entered has expired
Just got one a few days ago and have it running with no issue, I also came across this hack from github can anybody explain what is that for? I mean even with the original firmware you can still set it up like a CCTV and access the live/recorded footages on your phone
TA, work on a deal for the dafang model mate!
Tightarse is releasing his own model later in the year, it's called daArse.
It's getting great reviews on the Colonoscopy Australia website.
Guys if I want to just use this as a recording device (record to SD card) to monitor our puppy, do I still need to go through the app and set it up?
Looks like the app in Chinese is a bit of work hence wondering if I can bypass this if I don’t want to connect it to WIFI but just use it as a pure motion sensor recorder.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thx
There's English setup vids on a couple of the retailers web sites. I can't recall if it's Gearbest and Banggood or one of the others as I haven't got around to setting mine up yet.
If you're bypassing the mi.com website using home assistant or similar, check the forum's on those sites. The vids I watched (some time ago) step you through clearly and don't require ability to read/speak Chinese.I installed 3 of this camera and setting-up using the Mi home App is easy. I only had a problem initially with the 1st camera not connecting to my Wi-fi, but I've fixed it using a separate phone hotspot. It only takes about a 5-10 minutes to set it up if it connects to your wi-fi straight away. I suggest you install it close to your router, the Android app is much better than the iOS.
Deal expired :( Nooooo
Few questions:
1- can you have three or four all over your house?
2- does it need cable to modem?
3- are these powered through usb? Thanks
- yes as many as you want…
- wifi only
- have power cable but I think it did powered through capable USB
It's indoors only (not weatherproof/waterproof). Any recommendations for a weatherproof security camera housing for outdoor use? eg: https://www.ebay.com/p/Aluminium-CCTV-Surveillance-Camera-Ex…
Thanks
Been looking for one as well but can't find any locally, please let me know if you found anything.
Seems like the outdoor housing available cost more than the actual camera.
Here are some things I have discovered with these cameras since owning for a month:
- I have had mine outdoors but still sheltered by the veranda, so far so good. (For the investment even if it stops working can just bye another one cheaply).
- Motion detection randomly stops working unless I turn it off and on again, you will quickly get over the motion detection alerts though from every bug, bird, car etc.
- It's a good set and forget camera when you put a large sd card in it and just have it on continuous recording. In the event something happens just refer to your continuously recorded footage. It will automatically delete old footage once the card is full.
- It occasionally won't connect to the camera to view on your phone, again a power off and on is required. It it isn't connecting I find the continuous recording still works and continues to save to the SD card.
- Night vision won't work up against a window.
- If you want to install it under a veranda or somewhere sheltered, I just drilled a hole in the ceiling to feed the cable, and had a power-point in the roof already from my ducted heater so didn't need an electrician.
- The language barrier is annoying, sometimes I would take a screenshot and use google translate app to help assist me.
- The time is 2 hours behind and can't be changed unless hacked.
- I purchased the Xiaomi Mi Robot, amazing value for money and works on the same app. Both products are great value for money.
- Some footage already captured:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI8iFN5hw-whahah the adventures of Bailey! you need to install a baby safety gate lol! i was hoping for an epic roller door face smash in the first video when you chased after him :P
Now we don't have to buy an enclosure, Xiaomi just launched an outdoor camera: https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/09/18/new-yi-smart-outdoor-c…
What is the significance of the "11 Nov 026" code? Is that the expected delivery date?
Just out of my curiosity, does it provide access point(AP) or do I need an already existing wifi all the time?
Yes you can connect through AP but I haven't tried it. Here's a guide on how to do it: https://www.gearbest.com/blog/how-to/ap-mode-to-connect-xiao…
So my house got broken into and all 4 cameras got stolen too. Is there anyway to access the cloud footage without needing to connect to the cameras first?
Sorry to hear that, I also would love to know the answer to this. I couldn't find it on the Mi Cloud site.
Yeah defeats the purpose of cloud if you can't access without camera!
4x camera with SD cards all ripped out and stolen. My only hope is the cloud
Anyone's camera stop working overnight - had it all set up fine but today it's not working after the latest app update
Nice! price is getting lower and lower.
